Florida school shooting suspect is a white nationalist, group leader says

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/15/us/florida-shooting.html

Lol. Now, now children. This is the part where you switch up the denials. You stop trying to discredit the fact that he was a white nationalist, and you move on to how this is all about the poor lad's mental health.

All indications are that he was severely deranged so I do not doubt the reporting. White supremacist groups have a way of attracting the deranged. However, simply being a "white supremacist" does little to establish motive. This quote from the OP source seems likely...

The first thought that entered my head as this was unfolding yesterday was that this happening on Valentines Day wasn't a coincidence.

The only shocking part, is that it came from you first, and not jmotivator or Taylor.

He's still in the denial phase. Shhh, don't encourage him.

I'd have to take a little time to check, but I'll bet every time, oh, let's say, ISIS said "He was one of us", Taylor would come on here and post "Nuh uh, let's not believe them. That Muslim murderer wasn't associated with ISIS. Don't take this seriously."

Does Associated Press count? Tres Borrachos posted this link in post #62...

First sentence...
"An orphaned 19-year-old who participated in paramilitary drills with a white nationalist group was charged with murder Thursday in the deaths of 17 people who were fatally shot at a huge Florida high school in the nation’s deadliest school attack in five years."

Or do you want to quibble over the difference between 'white nationalist' and 'white supremacist'?

In the case of that particular group, they are one and the same.

2. Allegiance to your race:
We pledge our uncorrupted hand to people of European lineage and those who consider themselves our allies. There are those outside of the white race who we will inevitably consider allies, But we must not sexually mix with them or pretend that we have no differences.

There come a time, kemosabe, when bad men also wear masks.

The kid was hiding in plain sight - not masking himself like a sleeper agent. Does anybody remember that sci-fi movie "Chronicle"? Oftentimes bad parenting or lack of parenting makes all the difference.

Also, Jack Fab (you're so fab), I don't think anyone is trying to claim race was the motive here. If you look at the pictures of the dead people, and they are out there, they were all white.

There were more than a few people yesterday who were claiming his name (Cruz) indicated something (take a guess what), and one poster even posted that he was a member of Antifa, because he read Infowars which was suckered by a picture of another guy wearing an Antifa shirt on a fake Twitter account, being passed off as Cruz.

Does anybody have any info on that particular group?!?

Republic of Florida (ROF) leader Jordan Jereb

Like, how old the leader is - how large the "group" is - how long it has been in existence etc.

In other words: Is this a 5-"man"-play-behind-momma's-garden-shed group or is it actually a valid "White Supremacist" group?

Some people would like to feel important ...

I knew him in NJ in High School when he was Tom Mapother. Unlike Andrew McCarthy, who I knew quite well in High School, Tom was a little bit of nothing. I met him at a friend's party and she was in a play with him. I barely remember the event.

Glen Ridge girl?

So...he belongs to a white supremacist organization,
That's the claim being made by this local white supremacist that most of us are waiting for the proper authorities to investigate and either confirm or deny.

Yep, I said this in the other thread, there are things that can be done to prevent this kind of thing- like look for the obvious clues this kid was dropping all over the place.

And his mom recently died...
And he had emotional problems...
And he had a history of violence...

One more time- how does one belong to a white supremacist organization and not be a white supremacist?

I haven't seen anyone try to claim a racial motive, either. I just thought it was kind of silly for the person I was responding to to immediately question the accuracy of the reporting when direct quotes from the group's leader were contained in the article.

Just IMO, mental issues of ****ty self-esteem and blaming others for his own problems may have pushed him into a kinship with the white supremacist, not the other way around. (which would be him being a racist and joining them.)

Poor boy...just didnt know where he could fit in, so he went where he'd be welcomed...an even bigger group of losers blaming society and non-whites for all their problems and society's ills.

I find it hilarious/maddening that you people think the most important thing about this kid is his race ( means nothing) his political leanings, ( really means nothing )( or if belonged to some white supremacist group). The only thing that I find as sad as this shooting is that that someone notified the FBI about him months ago and said this kid is very capable of doing this kind of thing. It amazes me that after the fact, just how much info the authorities have on a person, yet did NOTHING!!

When Donald Trump said that the FBI was broken,, He was right.

here we go again.

If he attacked the school because he wanted to start a race war or shoot people because of his prejudices and causes, that would be terrorism.

If he's a white power dood, who shot up the school because he was butthurt at being expelled for being a douchebag it's not terrorism.

This is the problem with the lefts claim about domestic terrorism. If I rob a bank so I can get money for a drug habit, it's not terrorism, even if I belong to a terrorist group.

Everything that a muslim does is terrorism to the right. Every muslim is guilty of the crimes of a few.

But let a white power asshole commit an act of terror and the nazi party has all the excuses.

I can't speak for the right, but no, not every crime a muslim commits is terrorism. not by a long shot.

If this guy was a muslim, this would not have been a terrorist attack if he did it because he was a nutball who wanted to kill people because he got expelled.

if he did it for allah, jihad and the caliphate it would be terrorism.

What nazis party who are you calling nazis?

I quibble over the difference between what a white supremacist leader who had almost zero contact with the guy claims vs what law enforcement investigates and deems to be true.

That's the dilemma...they can't do anything until the person actually breaks the law.
