Do you actually have a legal basis for this argument? Otherwise, your job is perfectly justified in demanding you use preferred pronouns, and can absolutely fire you if you fail to comply.

Following the law is not sufficient to keep your job. You also have to actually do what your boss tells you. This guy didn't, so he got fired. Capiche?

of course it was, with the info we have it was a no brainer

I understand the "transgender" thing triggers some snowflakes and makes then unhinged but the reality is that its pretty meaningless and this has nothign to do with freedom of speech

The teacher was fired for violating school policy and insubordination. All and any teachers can be fired for that. :shrug:

unless new info comes out his termination was completely justified

I understand it just fine. Unless you can show me a law which restricts businesses from demanding you use preferred pronouns, you lose the case.

Note there is nothing in that citation referring to use of pronouns.

As for the Virginia codes? A cursory search using variations on "use of pronouns" found no requirement to use such pronouns by school personnel. (They may exist, I just didn't find it.)

Now I personally have no problems with using "preferred pronouns" if asked by someone I am speaking to. It's just common courtesy.

I also think this teacher is being unreasonable in this regard, as it doesn't hurt him to extend such courtesy.

However, I am against compulsory speech requirements. Don't tell me what I have to say, that infringes on MY free speech.

So the teacher used the student's preferred name, but avoided any use of pronouns? What is the deal?

Really stupid argument. Just how many trans kids do you think there are in the average high (or other grade level) school? You think the average teacher isn’t smart enough and can’t be conscious enough of how to properly address all of of their students and teach?
