Federal judges' association calls emergency meeting after DOJ intervenes in case of Trump ally Roger Stone

A national association of federal judges has called an emergency meeting Tuesday to address growing concerns about the intervention of Justice Department officials and President Donald Trump in politically sensitive cases, the group’s president said Monday.

Philadelphia U.S. District Judge Cynthia Rufe, who heads the independent Federal Judges Association, said the group “could not wait” until its spring conference to weigh in on a deepening crisis that has enveloped the Justice Department and Attorney General William Barr.

“There are plenty of issues that we are concerned about,” Rufe told USA TODAY. “We’ll talk all of this through.”

Rufe, nominated to the bench by President George W. Bush, said the group of more than 1,000 federal jurists called for the meeting last week after Trump criticized prosecutors' initial sentencing recommendation for his friend Roger Stone and the Department of Justice overruled them.

Roger Stone sentence: Judges worried about political interference

Barr is turning the Department of Justice into a political apparatus. Barr has to go.
 
The FJA is, primarily, an advocacy group focused on judicial compensation. Maybe a little recognition will get them a raise if the Democrats get in.
 
More than 2,000 former DOJ attorneys call on the Attorney General to resign, now the nation's judges are meeting out of concern.

The judiciary is the last bulwark against Trump's tyranny.

I doubt this results in all that much... I mean other than some news coverage and commentary.

BTW, just about everyone serving on a federal bench is inherently political. No matter if fast tracked via insider political shenanigans or thrown into a lengthy nomination and conformation process filled to the brim with ideological grandstanding and personal attacks the process itself is driven by politicians with their own ideologies, goals, and motivations.

We can pretend that the principle of being a Federal Judge suggests otherwise, but we know better. It should not even be up for debate.

Meanwhile, Stone will go to prison rather than implicate Trump and await his pardon. And when he is pardoned, uou fellows will say that justice is served.

Well apparently you believe tearing someone’s life apart until the you find the most minor of Mickey Mouse violations and then stacking a jury with people who have documented biases predating the trial Against the defendant and then demanding 9 years is justice

Lol. No, theyre exposing their own petty interests. They’re upset at what? Democratically elected presidents and their constitutional officers not sending people to prison for a decade on a politically motivated charge? Lol lame sauce

Nope, my friend, it is the President et al who are playing politically motivated efforts to undermine the Constitution.

Trump being elected does not allow him to overthrow checks and balances, the separation of powers, and the independent role of the judiciary.

Stone made it political with his lies and witness tampering, and now he will get nearly a decade in the fed stone house: so good for him!

And it is very good to know that for Trump's illegal activities as President there will be a series of federal and state charges waiting to be served on him on January 21, 2021.

Not one Democrat has been indicted over this sham investigation, FISA abuses, lying to investigators, misuse of government property etc.

Flynn and Stone go to corrupt judges and juries over mere process crimes.

You support leftist dictatorship I know so this doesn’t bother you, but your thought you can keep gaslighting people and say nothing any leftist at DoJ does is worthy of any investigation while Stone should go away for some nonsense that shouldn’t even be a crime, does not bode well for the future of the country.
