I have a guitar pick that Jimi Hendrix personally handed to me at a pop festival in Denver in 1968 when I was 15. He liked to sit on the edge of the stage between songs, and just chat with the people. It's not signed, but it is mine.
i met Jimmy James in 1963-64 at the folly beach pavilion on charleston's coast as a 11-12 year old kid. my parent's friend, Bobby D, DJ for WTMA (Tiger Radio) was the MC at the pavilion. beach/R&B by multiple artists was played from the early evenings til midnight. if a guy takes a dog to the beach, he can talk to any female he wants because the loveable dog breaks the ice. well, i was Bobby D's "dog". he had just divorced and his wife and daughter (about my age) moved away. so, i had the run of the place and got to meet all of the musicians of the day - as well as Bobby D's lady prospects. probably why i began playing guitar and organ about that same time. it was many, many years before i realized that Jimi was Jimmy, playing for the isley brothers. "are you experienced" was the most profoundly changing record i have ever heard; still recall the "experience" of first listening to it in tokyo the fall of '67. we were both blessed to meet Jimi as kids. not many can say that
