They do nothing without a promise of an afterlife, a reward for trying to be good based upon a fear that eternal damnation will punish them, not during their lifetimes, but after death. Apparently these people cannot do the right thing unless threatened or rewarded. That is a bargain made in bad faith.

Back when I was still a sprout, during the Vietnam War years, some ppl had bumper stickers that said "America: Love it or Leave It" and misconstrued opposition to the war to "hating America." Well, for one, very few wild animals kill unless hungry. There is that.

And, if you ever saw two wild animals or even two normal dogs fight, you'd know they grant each other plenty of mercy once domination is determined.

Why is that the case? "Western Morality" varies wildly by the region. If you wanna say Colonial Americans were able to coincide slavery and genocide with Christianity, be my guest. But I like to think most Christians are better than that.

What's kosher in Miami varies wildly than it would in Macon, Georgia. Hell, there's difference between what you can do in Miami and what you can't do in Kissimmee. Outside of the law, there isn't much that binds Western Morality together.
