Fact check: Trump says again that Americans need ID to buy groceries. They still don't

In some cases, not all, if you apply for SNAP (food stamps) you will need an ID. some stores will want to see an ID when you pay using a snap card (or a cc or debt card). So while it true you don't NEED an ID to buy groceries. You do need ID to apply for government (like snap) programs, open a bank account, or get a PO box along with many other things.

Yip I'll throw the bull**** flag on that!!!

No one needs an id for a snap card, just as you don't need one for your debit card.

Your pin number is all you need...

Requiring an ID is not restricting it.

Once you make it a requirement, the next process is how to ensure everyone has one/can get one.....

One does not preclude the other.

In the hypothetical perfect universe where you have "ensured everyone has one," sure. Let me know when that happens. When 100% of the eligible population is confirmed to have an ID that allows them to vote, I'll support voter ID laws.

Trump continues his Delusional Rantings Tour with a repeated lie that you need ID to buy groceries.

Link

He has got to be the stupidest leader in the world.

Other lies included statements that you don't need ID to vote anywhere in the country (not true) and that he granted permits to an LNG company that other administrations had refused (Obama issued the permits).

No one does fake news better than Donald.

This is why the Bottomless Pinocchio was invented. For repeating the same lies over and over ... and over and over.

In CO, I believe that if you vote at the polls you have to show some form of identification. Though I haven't voted at a polling place in quite some time. CO also mails out the ballots and you can just drop them off instead of actually having to show up and vote in person on a single day.

As it should be...

Your president said, and I quote, "You know, if you want to go out and buy groceries, you need identification." Unless you are buying alcohol or tobacco this is a blatantly false statement. :)

Will you admit this, or will you continue to deflect from Dear Leader's latest lie? ;)

Hey, you should give Trump a break. He may not know, I mean his dad was an immigrant from Germany, they haven't been here long.

If you were a business owner working at the cash register and a 60 year old man came in to buy some smokes and they had on a Red Hat wouldn't you card him???

This thread is EXACTLY why the 2020 election is in question, so many people are just dismissing the message because of the messenger, that they are deluding themselves into believing everything.

It's flat out amazing how many of you are so narrow-minded and small thinkers, to not even contemplate that Trump said what he said on purpose, to put the message forth and get people talking.

Dismiss him as a liar, as stupid, as this, as that, and watch what happens again, and you will be dumbfounded, just as before.

I have no idea if he will win again, but I wouldn't be shocked like some of you people here if he does.

It's amazing, he did it in 2016 to everyone, and everyone still hasn't learned how he did and how to react to it.

This isn't the first time Trump has said this in this way though, a blanket statement about needing ID for groceries.

Does he not learn from previous slips or just doesn't care how he comes across?

I messed up and said license earlier instead of ID. I will be more aware not to make the same mistake. What would that say about me, if I just kept repeating and not owning up to my errors?

Are you still going to repeat that you don’t need an ID to buy groceries, when it’s been shown you may need one depending on what groceries you are purchasing?

Trump and your claim can both be right and wrong depending on what’s being purchased.

Then how do we know the person that registered is the same person who is casting the vote.

How does it happen that a different person votes? Please explain.

If you can show that this is a problem, I could see your point. Otherwise, its just an onerous requirement that serves no purpose.

It is difficult to reconcile the idea that those in favor of ID aren't trying to repress the vote considering its the same group that is closing voting stations and motor vehicle departments where IDs can be obtained, and the same group that does voter purges. All these ideas suggest voter suppression. I can't help but notice it is endorsed by a party that tends to lose the popular vote in national elections.

If you want your idea that everyone should have a voter idea to protect the integrity of elections to be considered sincere and taken seriously, your cause would be better served by unveiling a plan that assures everyone gets a voter ID, not just that everyone must have them.

How do they prevent someone voting for a mentally incompetent relative? In Texas we have a couple of weeks of early voting where you can drop by a polling place and vote in usually less than ten minutes.

We don't really have a problem with voter fraud, it works rather well. I'm a fan of the system as it encourages voter participation.

Yes it does, by far. No leader in the world today, and few in history, are more deluded than Donald Trump.

No political party in the U.S. is more hypocritical that the democrats. Their constant whining about fairness and traditions within the Congress mean nothing when it is too their political advantage to ignore the normal established precedents of Congress. The current impeachment inquiry is a perfect example. Democrats failed in their attempts to find the President guilty of collusion, obstruction, campaign finance all the while ignoring Hillary's misdeeds. They have now come up with a new attempt to fulfill their promise to impeach that was made the day after the election. Now in their control of the House they are conducting an investigation that by precedent should have been voted upon by the full House after debate. This is how it was done for both Nixon and Clinton. It broadens the investigative powers of both parties and allows for an open and transparent investigation. That openess is apparently not what the self-righteous democrats want. They want to leak small cherry picked portions of testimony and to allow Schiff to write his own version of testimony by witnesses.
Wake up America. You don't have to like Trump, you don't have to vote for him but if democrats can railroad an elected President for political gain what else can they do? Let the American traditions of fairness, tradition and the power of the people at the ballot box rule. Contact your congressman. Remember the examples from history.

And there it is. Having completely lost his argument, he degrades into argumenta ad hominem.

You don't have a problem with Trump extorting a foreign country in order to coerce them to create dirt on his political opponent?

When I was buying some fish sticks at the Target they wanted my ID. Said I didn't look old enough to buy frozen foods.

And there it is. Having completely lost his argument, he degrades into argumenta ad hominem.

LOL I didn't lose anything bud, I'm just amazed at how far your head can go in that sand.....

Nuns usually are asked for IDs when they want to buy cucumbers.

Nice dodge. Yes or no, did your president tell the truth when he claimed that you need an ID just for groceries? Yes or no. :)

Take the hyperbole out of the message, and what do you have? You NEED ID to do most things in the U.S. "drink, buy cigarettes, drive, purchase a gun, etc, etc" The message is why wouldn't you need an ID for something as important as voting, when you need one for something insignificant as buying cigarettes?

Again, focuse on the message, not the hyperbole.

Typical trumpism: "Don't worry about what trump says, we all know what he means." Meanwhile right-wing nuts focused on every word Obama said.

It matters what the president says. He's the leader of the free world. He commands the most powerful military in the world and what he says affects world markets.

You are so willing to lower the bar for any politician with an "R" after their name.

So pathetic!

Both AS HAD BEEN EXPLAINED TO YOU.

But again, you don't understand, the truth doesn't matter to Trump, as much as the MESSAGE IT PORTRAYS, so do away with the hyperbole, no, you don't need ID to buy a loaf of bread....and focus on the message....well if you don't, WTF would he say that? Hmm.....to put the MESSAGE of....you need ID to do a lot of things in the U.S., why don't you need one to vote? And get people talking about that....

Instead, you have short necked people like yourself, talking about need an ID to buy a loaf of bread, which is exactly what you guys did last time in 2016, focused on the minutiae and missed the message, and were shocked that you lost.

And yet, that's what you guys did, focused on every word, and...missed the message...and lost.

Trump has said some silly things to be sure. Does that make him worse than other politicians who have done the same thing? He claimed he had large crowd sizes in rallies. Warren claimed to be a minority Native American. Blumenthal claimed to be a Vietnam veteran. Hillary claimed she dodged bullets in Bosnia. There isn't room here to post everything Biden has claimed. Are all politicians human and given to errors? Of course.

Great, you fished out some extraordinary things some Democrats have said. Good job. Now, let's talk about quantity. What politician has said the most insane things and told the largest quantity of disgusting lies in history?

Anyone who doesn't answer "trump" is delusional!

You just sent my mind places it has no business going.

Q: What is the definition of suspicion?
A: A nun doing press-ups in a cucumber field.

Focus on the message as a way of diminishing the votes you don’t like. That’s what voter ID is all about. The GOP keeps admitting it. The hyperbole is furnished by Trump’s lies about the mysterious millions of fraudulent votes, from New Hampshire to California. A solution in search of a problem.

Try buying groceries with a check and see if they don't ask for an ID.

Or with as $50 or $100 bill. Most counterfeits are $20 bills because they are much more common.

If you get a $50 or $100 bill at your bank look for the D/L number written on it somewhere.
