Trump seems to leave no controversial stones unturned. His intention to hold another rally, this one on sacred "Indian land" in front of a giant monument to four white men who led the genocide of those indigenous Americans is rather obscene.

"Indigenous people and my ancestors fought and died, and gave their lives to protect the sacred land, and to blow up a mountain and put the faces of four White men who were colonizers who committed genocide against Indigenous people -- the fact that we don't, as Americans, think of that as an absolute outrage is ridiculous," he told CNN in an interview Wednesday.

This event and tomorrow’s will be backdrops for campaign ads.

I understand the moral point. What's the legal standing, if any? The US had an agreement with the Lakota, discovered gold and broke the agreement, went in later and chiseled the Lakota's revered mountain regardless of any agreement. So, what's the recourse/reconciliation?

Seems like a destruction of history that our slave state sympathizers are always complaining about.

Reparations.

White Supremacy is written into the law of the land, always has been and continues to be so.

Mt Rushmore is only worth a half an hour photo op tops.

Reptile gardens just down the road is a must see.

The largest collection of poisonous snakes In the world.

I've been there several times.

Last time I camped accross the road for three days due to car trouble, spent nearly all day each day there, just soooo much to see!!!

Ya. That should be Stalin, Lenin and Che carved up there, right?

There is no place on earth that has not been taken over by a different race, religion, etc. Even "Native Americans", fought other tribes for land. The indigenous claim in not valid if you accept science findings. Humans in the US migrated out of Africa.

The fuss over Mt Rushmore is just taking advantage of the unrest currently going on in the US. Interesting that now people want to trash the Presidents on Mt. Rushmore who had a great influence on the shaping of the US. Do the Native Americans object to the Crazy Horse monument only 40 some miles from Mt. Rushmore? Crazy Horse did fight other tribes before the battle with the US at Bighorn.

Nah, this is an intentional "spit in your face moment" engineered by Don.

The president had a poor track record with Native Americans even before he decided to celebrate July Fourth at a landmark built on land stolen from an Indigenous tribe.

“Symbolically, he’s been a complete disaster for most people who follow Indian affairs,” said Matthew Fletcher, a member of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians and director of the Indigenous Law and Policy Center at Michigan State University.

Trump’s frequent clashes with other demographic groups have only magnified in recent weeks as he struggles to win a second term on policies that often contradict his campaign’s attempts to slice into the Democrats' advantages with African Americans, Asian Americans and Hispanics.

Well, now he gets to piss off the Indians.

May be it Trump being Trump as far as this 4th of July event.

My post was more general. Just pointing out the Indians are just play the poor me card.

I can't imagine hating America like you leftists do.

From the article.

The National Congress of American Indians, which bills itself as the oldest and largest group representing Native Americans and Alaska Natives, says it has urged Trump for more than three years to talk to them about policy the way previous presidents did — to no avail.

“We have yet to engage with the president in a very meaningful way,” said Fawn Sharp, the group’s president.

Instead, Native American leaders say, Trump has enacted policies that actively hurt their community.

I'd say that they have a legitimate beef.

Is five thousand folks massive? Seriously what's to say at this point that most of us don't know, even the trump supporters. The divider in chief, the grand wizard of what did he just say?

I'm ashamed for the republican party even if they themselves are not.

We despise your vision of america. You support a con man crook just like nixon was and you say the dems hate america. Good one.

I agree that Trump has not done well for some in this country. I would guess their small numbers don't help there case to get National attention.

imo, it may be time to get rid of the Reservation system and tell the tribes welcome to the US. If they are truly a "sovereign nation", why do they get to vote in US elections?

Lets not forget that they also hate about 75% of the people living here, since that is about the number who are either progressive in their thinking, gay, people of color, non religious, liberal, sane and a whole host of other qualities not inline with Far Right fantaicism.

I think what he's doing is disgusting, disrespectful and dangerous. Trump is a White Nationalist/Supremacist bitch who is only concerned with his election and is desperately playing to his racist trash inbred worshipers. Having the rally during this pandemic without any safety restrictions is just like that selfish whore. He doesn't give a damn about the American people and sure as hell cares less about all non-whites, including Native Americans. Those who cheer him on are anti-American, illiterate pukes, just like their new leader.

complaining about Mt. Rushmore just gives Tweetycult ammunition, and there is a zero percent chance that it will be taken down. there's an argument to be made for choosing one's battles.
