I did. It seems to indicate that they yelled at him and called him names. This guy isn't Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. If he didn't want to be called names he shouldn't have worn the stupid ****ing hat.

What's wrong, I think, in this story is that those bullying behaviors are beneath the dignity of decent human beings, especially in a group/mob setting like that. Secondly, those Cheesecake employees were ostensibly on the clock. That's unacceptable professional conduct.

But when you read this thread, you get the sense that some gang of "black-on-black racists", whatever that is, attacked a man in a restaurant, slit his throat, tore off his clothes, and then strung him from a flagpole with his MAGA hat covering his junk. I actually had to go back and read the OP article a second time because based on the psychotic postings in here, I thought I missed something. I didn't.

The anti-defamation league and the southern poverty law center have been the de facto authorities on hate speech in the United States for quite some time now. If you can't recognize the Swastika as the single most obvious symbol of hate in the world though you're just ****ing delusional. Nazi flags brandishing the symbol are banned in several countries around Europe. Most notably Germany, the country where the symbol rose to prominence.

A business can refuse service to anyone unless the refusal of service is based on the potential customer belonging to a group of people protected by the Civil Rights Act of 1964 or by more stringent anti-discrimination laws in the subject jurisdiction.

Therefore, Cheesecake cannot refuse to serve the customer in the OP article because he is black or Jewish or disabled or gay (in certain states), but it can refuse to serve him because he's barefoot or drunk or wearing a MAGA hat. That's the law.

Indeed, cities like New York could legislatively bar the denial of service based on political identity so long as it protects all viewpoints. However, it is unlikely that the New York City council will move to protect all speech equally, including symbols that many find offensive like white nationalist symbols or groups deemed anti-semitic or racist. What the recent New York cases show is that liberals cannot have their cake and eat it too in decisions like Masterpiece Cakeshop. You either protect free speech for everyone or give the government the power to determine what speech is permitted and what is proscribed, from coffee shops to cake shops.
