Driving America Toward Civil War

Cardinal...In college, I had a professor who had a bumper sticker on his office door that said " I will live in the 60's till something better comes along ".
We all knew it was a cute comment.

However, I never knew an ENTIRE STATE would think that way.
They seem to want to like in both 60's. The 1860's and the 1960's.

After living in the South for two years I can honestly say many of those folks are taught racism and homophobia. I am a gay Vet, went to a school and lived in a college town on the GA border with Alabama for two years on the GI Bill. I had to listen to an almost daily basis homophobic slurs, jokes, and just downright mean spirited comments. What shocked me most, the majority of the comments were coming from young African American supposedly educated folks. Now, understand this, homophobia is still preached in many predominantly African American Baptist churches. When homophobia is backed by your local church, well guys like me will pack and move on, and I did. The only other part of the world were I have seen so many men in the closet was in Saudi. This is based entirely on my own experiences and conversations I had with my fellow gays in the area.

Sad to say but a civil war is not out of the question. There's more hate in the country than in the 1960's
and maybe even more than in the 1860's. But we do not have men as dauntless & chivalrous as we had then.

I think we still have plenty of dauntless and courageous people, but we also have much more available food, and creature comforts than we did back then.
We are also much more tolerant as a general population than back then, but it would not take much for a skilled manipulator to turn the crowd to violence.

...and before some of you say anything.....Trump is NOT a skilled manipulator.
America's "flyover country" was already mad when he entered the stage. he did not turn them. He just took advantage of the anger that was already present.

When the left becomes frustrated with a lack of progress toward their utopian agenda, when the people start pushing back against it, they typically start militating for an end to civil liberties, and that is what we are seeing in the US now. No more free speech, no more freedom of religion, no more 2nd Amendment, no more Federalism because all of that gets in the way. In places like the former USSR, in China, in Venezuela, in Cambodia, and in other places we can see the results of following this path.

All power to the State.
All individual rights subordinated to the State.

They think that they are good, virtuous people, doing the right thing.

The danger is from both extreme sides. Its commies, nazis, anti Americans of all kinds of flavors, but all of them are being egged on by Putin. ANd the President seems to be the biggest ally in the push for a civil war. The only question that remains is if Trump went willing or that he was used? Either way if you are here to preach division then you are part of the problem. I would even point out that preaching division and wanting a civil war is treasonous.

I can believe that totally.
Remember when Obama visited Africa on a tour?
The local preachers asked he not talk about gays at all.

How are things going for you now?
Better, I hope?

I am actually in Saudi now working for a few months. Yes homosexuality is illegal here, but with the separation of sexes its much easier for a gay men to meet each other with little suspicion. Now if I as straight guy, no way would I be conversing with the opposite sex lol In other words, gay men here have a much better social/sex life than straight men. Its rather ironic lol But, the Saudis are good people, and things are changing here with the new Crown Prince in charge, he is a progressive. My apologies for going off topic. I make the best of every situation and as I love to travel, we all make sacrifices.

It's all "their" fault but I am not doing anything to add to the problem by constantly attacking "them". Right? ;)

Lowdown, if you really cared you would be starting dialogues on how we can get over our differences and try and work together instead of spouting widely ignorant stereotypes that flame the fires. But we all know what you're really about.

this.

Normal Americans cannot work with the violent left, who uses said violence as a "means to justify the ends." This justification comes from frustration, as Lowdown pointed out. I might also add the left labels others who disagree with them as "less than" which gives the left ALL the authority they need to inflict harm. Just ask Antifa.

And, one more thing. Practice what you preach. Take some responsibility to start threads you so demand of others. ;)

Maybe I will.

DamnYankee, let's start small - can you agree with me mosquitoes suck? What do you like to do for fun? Let's talk and see what we can find in common and go from there. I know there is more to you than just being anti-violent left.

Not sure if the issue is really the one that provides the title for the thread. I don't think we are headed toward Civil War, not in what remains of my lifetime anyway. We are however summoning, engendering a period of civil unrest and cultural warfare at a time when we are all of us as US citizens particularly vulnerable.

There is a fundamental problem here that White America of which I am a part simply refuses to come to terms with and in doing so blames everything else it sees in order to continue to avoid the fundamental problem. How 68% of the total Electorate or even part of that 68% can determine for itself that it has been put upon to such a degree that it required the idiocy of a Donald Trump in the White House is beyond me. That is self-indulgence to the point of absurdity.

The simple truth is that we White Americans no longer make enough babies. We have screwed up so badly that our kids no longer see much future in raising families. They can't see past getting to their own graves supporting more than maybe 1.25 of themselves. Get married to a working spouse. Have 0.50 of one kid. Call it a life. In other words, we have screwed up so much for so long that even with a working majority beyond all standards for what should be an unbeatable advantage, we still cannot instill in our kids enough hope for the future that they are willing to do more than just hope to get to their own graves comfortably. THAT is the problem.

The average size of the family household in this country in 1960 was 3.30 people. The average size today is 2.53 people and still falling. There is such a white majority still in this country that you could pull up any fact or statistic you want to in order to avoid the nature of the cause for that and still not make a reasoned case that white America is not at the heart of the problem.

We can scream about brown people and illegal immigration (which is really a hidden criticism of legal immigration) till we are blue in the face. It is all designed to avoid the essential problem. We have allowed personal greed and self aggrandizement to overwhelm any reasonable standard for common sense you could devise. Most of the discussion at this very forum is designed to avoid it as well. Substituting style and celebrity for substance is not helping either. But that is actually more a result than a cause.

It wasn't long ago when we had to fear being thrown into a FEMA camp. I think Obama was the culprit at the time, from all that we heard and read. Now this.
What impresses me more than all the tough talk and the gossip and falsehoods and fear mongering, regardless of topic, is what this lady put into words that make a lot of sense. Kindness always wins. I couldn't agree more.

im white and American pretty sure you creep me the **** out

NeverTrumpGOP...I remember a best seller from the 80's being sold in survivalist bookstores titled " How to Survive the Coming Economic Collapse of the 70's", or something like that.
They had to keep updating it to say...80's...no...90's....no...new century....no...
Ask your boss if he has any of those books.
I bet 20 bucks he has them all.

Oh yeah. I used to have a few of those books myself. Remember the guy who said we are gonna run out of oil???:lamo I've been studying CTs since I was 13.
Economic doomsdayers are weird. They just track the economy ignore everything good and hype everything bad. They want to be right one day just to say I told you so.

Glen Beck and the 3rd reich, was it? Buy gold and silver instead of toilet paper. Everyone can eat gold and silver when times get rough.
Lol, I'll stop now.

Yeah one of the few, but he wasn't that bad on the gold. My boss says, everyone should buy gold. I ask him if he has any and he doesn't! :lamo

That's such a good message. It's funny I just read something by Candace yesterday about that same message after some troll on twitter slammed her weight.

Cool! Now yer talking. :)

What do I like to do for fun: Explore, adventure. I routinely take trips out into the Nevada desert exploring old mining camps and ghost towns. I also rock hound while I'm out there. My last trip was out to the Lovelock Caves, where back in the 1920's, human remains and various artifacts were found belonging to an ancient people. It's on display at the Carson City Museum.

I also Journal, read a lot, garden, mostly flowering plants and different varieties of chili peppers, cook, fish, go for walks, re-purpose scrap lumber/metal into flower pots, spend time with nature. I am also a minimalist, conservationist, and tinkerer. I've been wanting to learn how to can food but finding a good inexpensive canning pot has been a challenge.

And you?

I also like exploring/adventuring - that is so cool you get to explore those old places. I love to travel, even just weekend trips an hour away or a staycation in town. Getting out and exploring new places and eating different things is always fun. I also read a lot, cook, and walk but have no green thumb. I like to play bingo, play cards, and gamble a little like playing keno for fun. I spend a lot of time with my family, we're always out spending time together playing basketball or tennis or inside just snuggling up watching movies or playing board games.

I think mostly at the end, we are more similar than we think but let our ideologies get in the way. Maybe I can get a little too passionate on my beliefs at times, I know I was yesterday and may have went too far but sometimes I just get worked up over it. I need to try harder to do my part and as you said, practice what I preach.

Day 1768 of LowDown Still Triggered About The Liberals

How about riot, break, and burn on campus when speakers are invited of whom they disagree with.
This has already happened many times.

And how exactly did you construe from my post that I was condoning any of that?

Someone should tell them, even a broken clock is right and correct twice a day.
Yeah, those CT types are the very definition of tunnel vision.

One common trait, I have noticed about 100% of them.
They never seem to ever have two nickles to rub together.
I know two "starving artists" and they, at least have an excuse.

And how exactly did you construe from my post that I was condoning any of that?

i apologize if that was not your intent.
I have heard it so many times before.
Even had some deny it even happened.

I am sorry.

You guys are awesome!
keep looking for that common thread you might share.

I am writing a book called "A Common Thread".
All lives are individual precious pearls, but when joined together by "A Common Thread", you have a very valuable necklace and something rare and beautiful indeed because it takes all those precious pearls united by a common thread to make it so.

You guys are doing that right now.

Are you a writer or is it just a side hobby right now?

Are you a writer or is it just a side hobby right now?

Side hobby, but I feel my "bread-n-butter" job pays to keep me writing.
I hope this to be my legacy rather than a pile of check stubs.
I have three stories that came to me all in dreams, so I have no idea if they are real or not, but I am putting them all in one book I will title "Stories I Was Asked to Share With You".
" A Common Thread" is one of them.

Gambling? LOL, my preferred game is blackjack. Reno, NV is our home away from home. We thought about buying a condo in one of Reno's refurbished casinos. That way I would be closer to my best friend, Harrah. lol

Yeah, it is looking more and more that we really do have more in common than differences. That's nice.

We're looking into selling everything and becoming snowbirds in an RV, what's your thoughts on something like that? I'm curious.
