Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top public health expert, said in an interview with the New York Times that it might be difficult for major sports to resume play this year.

Fauci tied any comeback to widespread testing with quick results, something that’s talked about often but isn’t yet avaialble.

“Safety, for the players and for the fans, trumps everything,” Fauci said. “If you can’t guarantee safety, then unfortunately you’re going to have to bite the bullet and say, ‘We may have to go without this sport for this season.’”

Leagues are working through options for how to get back to games, with or without fans in the seats. Fauci himself said he’d only feel comfortable returning to a stadium when the level of infection is lower than it is now. The United States topped the 1 million-confirmed case threshold Tuesday.

I am not sure about football, hockey, soccer, or baseball.

Basketball can work because there aren't many people on the court. 5-5 = 10 plus the referees. That's not really considered a large gathering. I was at the grocery store and saw at least 20-30 people in there at the same time. The same with the park and beaches.

Baseball: too many players and fans. Also, I believe 20-30% of the players do not even live in the United States so travel/logistics/entering the country will be a nightmare.

WWE - World Wrestling Entertainment is still doing live shows in an empty arena. So far, no wrestlers are gotten sick from COVID-19. AEW the other main wrestling promotion is starting back up in May. UFC is also planning to start back up soon.
 
There may be some sports, but there won't be fans in the seats.

Sports revenue's will come from television/radio only.

Entertainment Wrestling is scripted and is not a sport. As for basketball where you just have the teams playing, good luck making money on that. No stadium will hold an event with no concession sales. That's where they make their money.
 
No football? Heh. There WILL be football. Even if the Norks nuke Detroit, that's only one team gone. We have 31 others. 31. That's an overwhelming advantage.

I've actually been enjoying old classic baseball games on MLB Network and watching last years Atlanta Braves games on Fox Sport Southeast. Matter of fact on the MLB Network they're showing the 1995 Cleveland Indians vs the Braves world series.

I'm not interested in wrestling or boxing, but FS1 and FS2 have had old matches of both. Plus old golf matches on the golf channel. There's been old college and pro basketball games on those channels along with FSSE and ESPN 1,2 and whatever.

But it's baseball I watch. The rest I don't care much for.

Cancel football and we're looking at 1968 all over again. Actually, if football is cancelled, 2020 will make 1968 look like 1956.

The community infection is obviously way beyond the levels shown by the nasal testing. We need the blood tests, not the nasal crap.

If we have a rising value of 20%, the herd immunity is going to kick in. After the opening of the malls which is going to happen nationwide over the next couple weeks, we are going to have been infected real quick and right away.

Even if it is, and all verifiable evidence shows the opposite, the economic and social
Damage caused by the remedy is far worse then that caused by the virus.
