Dozens of Florida hospitals out of available ICU beds, state data shows

Dozens of Florida hospitals out of available ICU beds, state data shows - Reuters

(Reuters) - More than four dozen hospitals in Florida reported that their intensive care units (ICUs) have reached full capacity on Tuesday as COVID-19 cases surge in the state and throughout the country.

Hospital ICUs were full at 54 hospitals across 25 of Florida’s 67 counties, according to data published on Tuesday morning by the state’s Agency for Health Care Administration. More than 300 hospitals were included in the report, but not all had adult ICUs.

That's where you wind up if you have a Republican governor.

300 hospitals, 54 ICUs full. How many beds is that exactly? So use the other 246 hospitals. I seem to remember hearing all my life about people being moved to ICU "as soon as they have an open bed". There is an abundance of ventilators I understand, wheel one into a room. I bet they can do that'

Lot of hospitals in Florida have no or few ICU beds. Routinely ship patients to bigger hospitals. Lot of counties around county similarly.

You have to be fully aware "should be" and "is" are NEVER the same thing with Donald Trump supporters. Ron DeSantis is one of them. Florida got much worse AFTER businesses and beaches were reopened. That was NOT a coincidence.

I will take the word of governor who protected the elderly over the the lies of my democrat governor who sent infected people back to the nursing homes and killed our elderly.

Testing no one is not the answer when trying to contain Covid 19.

The more people we test the more people we will find that are infected. That does not mean things are worse because we have done more testing and found out how many people are infected over not knowing when we did little testing. On the other hand all we have to do to lower the numbers is do less testing again. Problem solved for all the idiots that don't have a clue.

Hi!

I'm sure you'll appreciate the resonance here.

I heard President Franklin D. Roosevelt's fireside chats.* I've read President Donald Trump's comments and tweets, and President Trump is no President Roosevelt.

* I'm 86 years old. I remember them and the end of WW II quite clearly.

Regards, stay safe and well.
Thanks so much for your input, Torus34. I didn't hear the Fireside Chats directly, but I've listened to a few. Yeah, I'm a fan of FDR. I like Ike, too!

The more people you test the percent of positive rate should be less than 10 percent for Covid 19 in an area If it is not spreading so rapidly there will be Many more hospitalizations and deaths in the coming weeks.

Michigan tests between 15,000 to 20,000 daily.

In today’s Michigan report.:

Sunday’s (July,12,2020 ) update includes

390 new cases and one additional death.

Testing has increased slightly in the last week, with an average of more than 20,000 per day, with the positive rate just above 3 percent.

Hospitalizations have increased slightly, but critical care data remains flat.

Until we test everyone we are sampling. If we were to test 100 old people in my neighborhood who have been staying at home social distancing and taking every precaution to protect themselves there will not be a single positive result. That does not mean the virus is gone and everything is OK. If I go to another area where a lot of the minorities and/or the poor live in crowded conditions with younger people and lots of kids running a muck like kids do. We will get higher results and it would look like the virus is out or control. If we test people very ill needing to be admitted to the hospital fighting for their life because of age, a weakened immune system, and/or other conditions that put them at high risk we will see a high death rate. There are a lot of factors in determining results. Who you test, how many you test, and when you test, are all factors that can give different results.

The facts are being skewed intentionally by both parties for political gain without a care in the world for the people of this country. We need to vote all these party puppets out of office and elect some real leaders.

You misunderstand test results.

And no not every one needs to tested.

Michigan gives about 20,000 tests a day.

The rate of positives is less than 3 percent.

Positive test rate

MICHIGAN

A low percentage (2.5%) of COVID tests were positive, which suggests enough widespread, aggressive testing in Michigan to detect most new cases. Identifying and isolating new cases can help contain COVID without resorting to lockdowns.

Florida’s Positive rate is over 19 percent.

Arizona’s positive rate is over 26 percent.

Positive test rate

ARIZONA

A relatively high percentage (26.6%) of COVID tests were positive, which indicates that testing in Arizona is limited and that most cases likely go undetected. At these levels, it is hard to know how fast COVID is actually spreading, and there is very high risk of being surprised by a wave of disease. More testing urgently needed.

Last sentence most important.

" More than 300 hospitals were included in the report, but not all had adult ICUs."

Lets see the list of hospitals number of ICU beds, number of potential ICU beds. Is the HOPE or the COMFORT heading to Miami? Not that the press would misrepresent........

This spin cycle is misleading. For any hospital to make money, their ICU needs to run at 95% capacity. Before this corona spike in Florida, Florida ICUs was already running at 85% capacity, due to all the routine procedures that had put on hold in the spring, that were starting to come back. If you add another 15% due to corona patients, you are at capacity and the hospital is turning a profit.

Based on the spin, how many thought the entire ICU of Florida was full of nothing but corona patients?

Workbook':' Public

Link to their ACTUAL database and which hospitals HAVE ICU beds and which hospital ICUs are filled, up to the minute.

Out of TOTAL beds available (46,412), 8,070 beds were filled due to COVID related illnesses. As has been shown in the past, that could be a 95 year old overweight diabetic with a history of lung and heart problems as long as they test positive even with the antibody/serology exam for COVID.
