Last night, at the rally in Pennsylvania, Donald Trump read Al Wilson's 1968 poem 'The Snake'

Donald Trump compared immigrants to a treacherous snake that bites its host as he commemorated his 100th day as President.

Mr Trump read the lyrics of Al Wilson's 1968 song "The Snake," in which a woman takes an ill snake into her home only for it to bite her once it has recovered.

He also paused to point out to his audience it was a metaphor for "the border."

During his speech to a rally in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Mr Trump dedicated his recital to Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly and anti-immigration agencies.

"White gene pool" - I'm not even White myself - the point is that illegal immigration is bad for a country. When a country loses control over its own borders, then it begins to lose its characteristics as a country. If your house doesn't have walls and a roof, then it isn't a house. If your body no longer has skin, then you won't be living very much longer. If your country doesn't have borders, then it will soon cease to be a country. A nation is a physical system, and cannot defy the constraints and limits of nature - no matter how much namby-pamby liberals claim otherwise.

I don't believe he was alluding to illegal immigration here (which nearly everyone agrees is wrong), as much as Muslim immigration and refugee intake.

Well said and well reasoned. I wonder how many for open borders bother to lock their doors at night or cars when left on the street.

Unfortunately you cannot reason someone out of a position they did not use reason to arrive at in the first place.

Don't be a pedant - by that standard, you'll be claiming that nothing less than a whole planet is a physical system. Sorry, but nations matter.

Some Libtards naively think that if they do away with the system of nations, then it'll result in some utopian Star Trek United Earth Federation, or something. In reality what will result are various trans-nationalist empires spanning across the carcasses of various former nations.

Nations are not physical, they are philosophical. This same area might be a completely different nation in 2525 (if man is still alive). I have no inclination to wish for the destruction of nations. As long as there are inhabitants, there will be nations. The question is:

Will this part of North America bear the same name?

Our borders are far from open. Trump was dog whistling about ANY immigration of "foreigners" . Meanwhile you Texans have given up the Rio Grande river to Mexico now?

Nations are physical entities too - they have finite territorial space, finite resources, finite GDP, they have finite revenue inputs and finite expenditure outputs, finite population with finite birth and death rates - they are not abstract concepts like philosophy.

Trumps reading of THE SNAKE refers to the middle and lower income people who voted against their own economic self interest by being deceived by THE SNAKE in person of Trump and the right wing pushing him. They took in the snake and were deceived by him only to be bitten by him in the end.

I was merely showing how a song about a woman being deceived by a unprincipled cad can be taken by Trump to be about immigration and others can take the same song to mean its about Trump himself.

At least you didn't deny that the rant was nothing but a blatant anti-immigration innuendo to appeal to his ham-fisted base. We are a nation of immigrants, rolling up the mat is not an option. The odd thing is that Trump knows this better than most. Half of his employees at Maralago are immigrants fresh off the boat. He sure does not practice what he preaches. He makes all his "items" overseas and hires as many immigrants as possible for all his jobs. It's just good business to keep your employee expenses down I guess.
