In light of the recent controversies regarding Trump and five star families and Kelly's statements, I am beyond outraged.

Kelly tried to clarify what Trump was trying to say. In Kelly's, now famous speech, it appears that Trump did actually say that Sgt. La David Johnson "knew what he signed up for," but in Kelly's speech, Kelly is trying to clarify what Trump was actually trying to say behind the statement. Knowing Trump and seeing his communication style, it's no leap in logic to think Trump could deliver something in a really insensitive unempathetic way. It's also reasonable the family would get get hurt and upset.

I realize accidents happen, but in light of other issues, such as Trump promising to give another Gold Star family 25K in a phone call, then failing to do so until the media called him out, insulting the Khan family, and his repeated attacks on John McCains service, etc. and topped by his attacks on the NFL to stand, I can't help but be totally and completely outraged by President Donald Trump.

He signed up to be President of the United States and the Commander in Chief. He toys with the idea of war with North Korea, and if that that war happens under his command, our armed forces will be at more risk than ever in my life. Yes, they know what they signed up for. They are risking their lives for the country, and have put themselves at his command. What has Trump risked? Trump has never even served in public office until now. He has no record of political activism of any type. He has never marched or been arrested for any cause. He has never put himself at risk or in harms way for anybody else's freedom in any capacity that I know of.

The men and women in our armed forces are way more honorable, heroic, and inspiring that Trump will ever be. I am sorry this man is the Commander in Chief.

Y’all idiots just don’t get it, the heroes that sign up for the military know that they are willing to sacrifice their lives so you can be free to spew the crap y’all constantly hurl.

Find someone who has volunteered for the military and they will explain it to you.

My guess is you have been upset with president Trump and this is something to latch onto.
You don't seem to understand he took the time to call the family. Lots of outrage going
round today.

Common sense says you do not say that to the widow, or the mother. To the father who was a soldier sure

I have actually met Five Star families. I have met Khizr Khan and many of his children, but not the one who died. I have never met his wife. I have cried so many tears for his pain. He is a small man, and he looks very elderly in person. I can't believe Trump treated a man like him so badly, and I know his family was deeply offended.

I have way more respect for the fallen than I do for Trump...

Well based on how often everyone around him says, Give him a break, he's learning. I would say no.

Agreed. Imagine the outrage if Trump was killed in office and was lying in State in the Capitol Building and somebody came up to his widow and said "well, he knew what he signed up for".

Hard to believe the Left is still trying to milk this for Political gain.
Its as appaling today as it was the day it started

Yeah? I'm one of the ones "spewing that crap", and I did my twenty in the Navy. Don't make the mistake of assuming that we don't serve right alongside conservatives.

That being said, Trump - like Cheney and Limbaugh - is a classic chickenhawk. He's SO eager to play with his toy soldiers, but he - like Limbaugh - used a BS excuse to get out of service. Or do you not remember when he said he knows more about ISIS than our generals do? Do you not remember when he dissed McCain for being a POW? Do you not remember when he dissed a Gold Star family for being Muslim? If Obama had done any of those, y'all would've been calling for his head on a pike - and I would have, too. But since he's from your side, it doesn't matter how much he disses our troops (and grieving family members), does it? It's just like he said - he can stand on Fifth Avenue and shoot someone, and y'all would still defend him until your dying breath.

That, sir, is what's truly sad.

Trump, Trump, Trump...

No class, no decorum, just Trump. Pretty sad that even one American still supports him at this point.

Trump knows what they signed up for too. That's why he never signed up.

I volunteered for the military, and I found Trump's treatment of the military and veterans absolutely appalling. All we are to him is a moral shield to protect him from criticism. Dare to speak out against him and he will return by belittling your service. At worst, the veterans that did trust him enough to attend Trump University lost their GI Bills to a scam artist who only saw veterans as ATMs to withdraw from.

Enjoy your "outrage," that doesn't mean what you believe, or the version this Congresswoman claimed, actually occurred.

I prefer to believe General Kelly's version and I am not outraged...even if I were to accept that Mr. Trump may have stated exactly what the Congresswoman alleged.

You all act like he was intentionally trying to insult or dismay someone.

He spoke to four families and the only person to complain (albeit shortly echoed by the Aunt of the soldier) was a second-hand witness to (in her own admission) part of a single call.

Elsewhere in this Forum evidence in the form of a recording of an actual call was provided, by the grieving widow of another fallen soldier, and she was proud to receive his call.

Gold Star widow releases audio of phone call with Trump – Women in the World in Association with The New York Times – WITW

I appreciate this lady coming forward with her recording at a time when Trump is getting blasted by the resistance. She obviously felt that this was necessary and that the recent criticism of Trump is unfair.

Like General Kelly stated, it is never easy to communicate with the families when they lose a loved one, in or outside of military service.

Trump tried and there was no malice or evil intent.

Portraying his attempt as such is the REAL evil in all this brouhaha. People who keep pushing it are the ones who should be ashamed of themselves IMHO.

Welcome to Missing The Point-Land. Population = you.

It doesn’t matter to the partisans. If not this, it will be something else.

Stay on it, boys. It’s another losing argument.

You ARE one of the partisans. You will defend Trump no matter how bad he is.

That topic is a real yawner.

I was and am quite unhappy with Trump. But this side show is more disgusting by the way of loud liberal bigotry than anything else.

There might not have been malice or evil intent in Trump. There certainly is in the bigoted hysteria since.

He probably has more respect for the fallen than he has for you, too.

So?

Is Khizr Khan a relative of yours? If not, why would you cry for him? Do you cry for everyone who's lost a family member? If so, you must be in tears a good deal of your life.

All I'm seeing in thread like this -- and, there are plenty of them -- is people trying so hard to cast aspersions on Trump for silly things.

There are real reasons for calling Trump out, but this isn't one of them. This is a sign of how petty (some folks) on the losing side have become since the election. Not all. Most are intelligent people who realize they need to get their ducks in a row before the next election, but we're still seeing a large number of the disgruntled that are focusing on shallow issues such as this one.

It's fascinating, really.

I see you served for the free education, not our country.
Have you ever been in a conversation and say something that you meant to be a good hearted statement, but other folks didn’t understand what you were saying?
ISIS- wonder why now they are being defeated?
McStain- He attacked Trump first, don’t leave that out, I do agree maybe it was wrong to attack him as a POW because he had plenty of other things to attack McStain on.
Gold star family- This was taken fully out of context, I know it might be hard but you gotta use a little common sense to understand sometimes.
Shooting someone- see this is another thing you have to use common sense, surly you aren’t so dumb to think he was really saying he would shoot someone.
But thanks for serving your free education not your country.

There aren’t many of us left that use common sense, most sheep just hear something from MSM and start stomping their feet.
Wonder how many here bashing Trumps call could have did a better job, I wouldn’t want that job. At least he called and not just a prefabricated letter.

General Kelly would disagree with you! What President took on the veterans administration to start and fix the VA medical system.... President Trump, they can actually fire incompetence now!
