One great thing about people having smartphones they can record video with is now we can document the racism in this country. Of course, it's not just America but racism exists all over the world. But if you're not a minority its invisible to you.

But thanks to YouTube and smartphones people who deny that minorities have to deal with racists who sometimes have power over them (police, employers, etc) can see for themselves.

When claims that white privilege does not exist arrive, ask if he's white culture or black culture. ;)

I could understand if he hadn't used his FOB to enter the building, why she might question him. But once he used the FOB to get in, that's it. Move out of the way.

What's the evidence that the woman was motivated by racism?

No we agree that some people are severely stupid in what they do.
1 person or a few people are not america.
but your paintbrush fallacy is just that.

People need to mind their own business.
he could have been there to visit a friend and they buzzed him in.
the fact is it is none of her business.

as a side note her job fired her for it.

Who has denied Black's are discriminated against in America?

Not me.

What's the evidence that the woman was motivated by racism?

Deduction.

And if a black person pulled that stunt on a white person? I hope one of the arriving cops is black; her life would have been in jeopardy via police.

I lived in high-end highrises on two occasions--when I first moved to DC and in Bahrain. I've never felt the need to appoint myself unofficial bouncer. I guess if someone who looked straight-up homeless or like a gangbanger I would have been a little more discriminating, but I generally just let anyone piggyback in. We had doormen and a concierge desk, so I didn't feel the need to be involved.

That said, if she really believed this guy to be an intruder or someone potentially dangerous, why would she feel secure enough to challenge him? I don't imagine most young women would do that kind of thing with young men they didn't know.

It's the cultural aspect of blackness that is either allowed or discriminated against. The racial nature of African-Americans has nothing to do with the discrimination.

Within the African-American community, for example, Ben Carson and Kanye are discriminated against.
GOPs aren't discriminate against the two.

BLM says cops are the main roadblock to safety for blacks.
Statistics say other blacks are the main roadblock to safety for blacks.

This issue isn't all that difficult to understand.

Do you think the woman regularly follows people to the door of their condo unit to make sure they live in the building?

Or do you think this was a special case, and what do you think made this instance special?

If it is the first, and it involved people of different ethnicities (including white) then I will say probably not racist

If it is the second as the most obvious item that would be special is the person's ethnicity, I would probably say racist

True, could just be crazy. Nonetheless, lucky she's white if the cops are called.

More than just one

Just on this board we have seen reports regarding at least a couple pool related incidents, a BBQ in a park, a BBQ at home, a kid getting the police called because a woman thought a 8 or 9 year old boy touched her butt, a kid selling drinks on the street. I am sure their are some that I am missing and I expect plenty more that were not recorded and not reported

 Some people feel different. I wouldn't begrudge someone asking if I live there if I piggybacked on someone else's buzz-in. But I am white, so I am probably more apt to be believed.

Acting crazy while black doesn't work out the same.

What do you mean by crazy? Did you watch the video of Kanye in the White House the other day?

Yeah, you missed police called on "suspicious Black man" at a college. It was a short haired Black woman who worked there.

Why try and turn this into a "What-if" scenario. It's enough that this situation happened without trying to flare up anything more by presenting a hypothetical where the cops are called.

What?

Statistically, factually, scientifically... acting crazy while black doesn't work out the same. Like driving while black and applying for a job while black. Fair shake in court while black. All statistical facts.

What?

You saying factually, scientifically acting crazy while non-black works out the same?

And you've got to define crazy. Having different political stances causes some to think others are crazy.

Cops are no different than any other group. Just trying to give her a better chance of survival.

No but when it's more than "a few" and more like "many" than maybe you need to look at things.

As the OP said "But if you're not a minority its invisible to you."

Think about it. There's instances all over of minorities being openly discriminated yet you still try to play it off by 1 or a few.

Honestly though until you walk a mile in someone else's shoes you might not understand what it can be like.

Acting crazy while non black is pretty safe. I'm not saying I'd recommend it, but it's not like "seriously, bad idea, you could die".
