It really doesn't matter to me, I haven't been to a circus in probably 35 years.
It's their business, not mine.
I assume we would hear more about it if they were treated badly.
But I am against caging animals anyway, whether for horse racing, circus's or even zoo's. I don't lose sleep over it, I just don't think it's cool.
WHAT he said but PETA is scum and I cannot stand them in any way shape or form. A moronic PETA scumbag was braying about the Elephants in Cincinnati. What a frigging loser
Anymore if you offend someone else's "sensitivities" their "feelings", then it must be banned. There has been an effort for years against zoos and circuses and even the use of an animal as a beast of burden with certain special interest groups. If PETA would have been around 140 years ago they would be protesting stagecoaches pulled by teams of horses and horses used to plow the fields. There is a history of abuse with animal trainers but there is also a lot of documentation that shows that elephants and other animals trained to perform build deep bonds between the animal and the trainer and live very well. There are good zoos and bad ones. You can find good and evil in everything. They say that someone went undercover and video taped the elephants being abused. I haven't viewed the video. But when abuse is found, it needs to be called out.
You are correct. PETA did infiltrate circuses more than once, and brought back obvious evidence of atrocities. PETA isn't my favorite organization and I have a lot of issues with some of their tactics as well as some of their conclusions. In this example they were spot on, and that's been known for years. There are many groups and individuals who work hard to help these elephants, including Bob Barker (who has personally funded the rescue and rehoming of some elephants), Cleveland Amory's charity "The Fund For Animals", and some others. I've worked an elephant rescue and I'm here to tell you, I can cry at the drop of a hat thinking about what I saw, and what people do to these creatures. There is absolutely no upside to using elephants for human entertainment whatsoever.
Interestingly enough, the movie "Born Free", while not about elephants, raised a lot of new awareness about the plight of elephants and other animals from Africa and Asia.
Yes, that's great!
No
No, and I blame liberals
Other
PETA euthanizes thousands of dogs annually, same with the Humane Society, screw both organizations.
Having said that, the circus has become an anachronism, it's been replaced by Circ Du Sole which puts on quality human entertainment and major concert tours in which performers like Pink fly by wire all over arenas and Tommy Lee plays drums on a roller coaster. Disband the circus altogether, and quit using wild animals as props. It's not entertaining.

Hi Tres, as I stated there are good trainers and bad ones. I don't believe all elephants are mistreated by their trainers . Here's one who died recently who spent his life training animals and started at the age of 6 helping his father train elephants. The man was known for his love of animals especially elephants, horses, zebras and dogs.

I do know that some special interest groups have managed to have circuses banned from their cities over the elephant abuses recorded and some just find the practice of training animals to perform appalling and offends their sensitivities. That's unfortunate for all good and humane animal trainers.
PETA kills more animals than anyone.
Not even close. Best guess is they put about 2600 animals to sleep each year. It's far too many, but it's nowhere close to the 3-4 million who die in shelters each year, or the hundreds of thousands who die outside of shelters, intentionally or because of neglect.
Animals like these should not be confined for human amusement but rather place in as natural habitat as possible.
The whole circus should be shut down as it is a disgrace... seriously.

a little hyperbole, but they have a dismal not kill record, 90+ percent they take in are killed.
Elephants weren't made for circuses. They should not be performing in circuses. There is not one positive thing that comes from it. A lot of people spend their lives training elephants. They profess to do it with love. There is no love in making them perform. It is in direct opposition with their world and their societal requirements, not to mention physically taxing.
Seriously, does anyone actually GO to see an animal circus?
And what century are they living in? Anyone with an ISP can find much more amusement anywhere else..
Now, do we want to talk about rodeos? and tying a bulls nuts so hard he's enraged. Now that's entertainment! Let's bring back dog fights too.
