I was just out of the Army, home from Germany when the Civil Rights law (passed only due to republican efforts in the form of Everett Dirksen who broke the logjam of the democrats and recall it happening at the time.

So let's get real on this issue. Democrats talk talk talk but in the past 56 years have not come close to resolving blacks issues. The following is a discussion between two blacks. I urge you watch their discussion.

Trump and the republicans have busted hump to help blacks. A good many blacks are seriously appreciative and I expect blacks to elect Trump this time.

Blacks don't need anyone to solve their problems.

They need to do it themselves

Fort Sumter ceased to be the property of South Carolina in 1829, when the land was ceded (VOLUNTARILY) by the South Carolina government to the Federal government. When they voted to depart the Union, they did so unilaterally and without any negotiation over the ownership of shared property, they abrogated all claims they had to it. They then attacked and invaded sovereign US territory and a US military base, acts of war under any international definition.

Only AFTER that happened did Lincoln invade Confederate territory.

Just because the Confederate attack on Fort Sumter was incompetent, that means nothing. It was still an act of war. If the Confederate government in Richmond disagreed with it (spoiler alert: they didn't), they should have expelled South Carolina from the Confederacy. They had plenty of time to do so and then the war would have only been between the USA and South Carolina.

Virginia when Lincoln invaded it was not a "sovereign state". It was a state within the sovereign Confederate States of America, it housed the Confederate capital, its federal government, and the lion share of its war industry. Why would the US not attack the capital state of the country that had attacked and invaded them?

And I agree, the First Battle of Manassas was incompetent. Lincoln wasn't commanding it, so I'm not sure why you say he was. The only thing that matters is that the United States won and the racist, slave loving Southern Conservatives were put in their place. My only regret is that Southern culture wasn't totally annihilated during reconstruction.

The South made the decision of war for Lincoln. He didn't have any choice in the matter the second their guns attacked the US military. But then again, Abe wasn't a meek coward like you would have been.
