We loved it. Seriously, it was fun, brutal, engaging, brutal... did I mention brutal? It had moments of tear jerk, then moments of DAAAAMN. I'll just say this, there were moments that made the audience GASP. There were laughs too, some moments were a bit over top, but in the end, it was a good remake of an old movie.

Gotta love a fun revenge flick. Any similarities to the original?

Good to hear you are well enough to get out.
I'm looking forward to seeing.it.
My favorite Bronson movie was the mechanic. The remake was good but just not the same.

Without seeing it yet, here's a thought. Bronson, star of the original, had a reputation as a touch guy in the movies, but also as one of the nicest denizens of Hollywood. Warm, charming, generous, kind, patient, giving, gentlemanly and so forth. Bruce Willis, on the other hand, has developed a personal reputation of being an arrogant, pompous, d**khead.

In my eyes, the best Bronson movie was Once Upon a Time in the West. Never to be adequately remade because the cast assemblage could never be matched. And of course the grossly underestimated Hard Times. And with his often understated roles like in The Great Escape, as a coal miner with claustrophobia digging an escape tunnel, he always managed to bring an additional touch of humanity to the hard facade he carried.

Anybody seen it yet?

*sigh*

No, but I expect more guns, gore and gratuitous violence, then a bunch of “he was such a nice boy. Why did he kill all his friends” garbage.

If people want blood and gore I’d prefer they witness it at rifle executions in the nations burgeoning death rows.

Sorry - started another thread, and wish I'd seen this one.

OK. To me, the movie was mediocre. It wasn't terrible, but I was hugely disappointed in one main factor.

We needed bad guys. Granted, yes, we had bad guys, but we didn't know who they really were. Just a glimpse here, an elevator visit there. But there was no real bad guy that we knew. No real bad guy that we hated. That guy at the end? The last one that he killed with the coffee table gun? I saw him one time in the movie - in the elevator. I think back to action flicks like Lethal Weapon. You know who the bad guys were in those movies. They were front and center, and in your face through the whole movie. You LOVED it when they died. The audience cheered when they died. This one? I just didn't feel like it had much closure. Yes, he killed the bad guys, but you didn't get a chance to hate them, because you didn't really even know who they were. He killed that last guy, and I was like, "Oh, it's over? No spectacular ending?"

Now off to read Rotten Tomatoes to see what they had to say.

Well you will have lots of guns and ****. That much you will have. It is a plethora of gratuitous violence.

Bruce Willis needs to do more work like Pulp Fiction. Now that was some good ****.

Re: Death Wish (2018)

I doubt I'll see it ever. :)

I wish I'd waited to get it on HD Movie Codes.

It wasn't terrible. Don't get me wrong. If you like guns and gore and gratuitous violence then this is the movie for you. It had some pretty good scenes (I believe my favorite was the scene with Jack) but it just failed to live up to expectations. Just almost felt like a limp handshake. Just meh.

Oh, and his brother?
I swear, I told my husband, "You'll find out that in the end, the dirtbag brother owed money to these guys, and that's why they are coming after his family." But no - nothing. Just a random encounter that started out with Kersey complimenting a guy on his tattoo." WTAF?

The original DW flicks with Charlie B at least had some contemporary resonance, seeing as how the 70's really were a time when street crime and dangerous cities affected many of us. But, to play that angle today just rings hollow, IMO.

Besides, the Bronson Death Wish series were some of his worst movies, unlike his Paul Fein character in the Family of Cops movie series. Now that stuff was great. Death Wish was just...I don't know---murdering a bunch of no-name bad guys. Give me a flick like 10 to Midnight. Now that is some kick ass vigilante ****.

Yeah I was talking about 10 to Midnight today. I'm normally not a big Bronson fan, but that movie was fantastic.
