DACA as Democrats propose it is essentially an open border. Is the locks on your doors and windows on your house and car door locks "metaphorical?" Eliminate them and just put up a security camera. No one, ever, would go past any security camera. They should only use security cameras for all prisons as walls and fences are totally worthless and a waste of money.

How will the $5.6 billion will be spent? Steel or concrete? Made by whom? At how much a section? How high/deep/wide? How deep does it go into the ground? Who are the contractors? Has the choice been tested by DHS? Environmental studies? If steel does it rust? Open bidding process? Penalties for worker injuries and behind schedule? Where exactly are the panels going to placed? Any effects on the Rio Grande River or underground aquifers? Is everything USA? What are the QC parameters?

etc. etc. etc.

No one knows anything. Yet Trump wants $5.6 billion and we'll do this on the fly. Typical Trump incompetence.

House dems do not negotiate ( in good faith) until the govt is reopened. House Dems only negotiate ( in good faith) with their republican counterparts in Congress. Trump is liar, a cheat and a turncoat. One does not make deals with such men. Let McConnell and friends handle the man-child in the oval office. Its their honor and integrity at stake which of course he will trample on, further dividing and isolating two wings of the party as each points fingers. There will be no attainable deal under this administration but bit by bit piece by piece bills will pass that reopen the govt under the radar over the course of the year, until there is little left of this shutdown.


The real problem that the right has not figured out, is that if this wall in whatever form, is built as a win for Trump, and it still has no broad base of support, its coming down very soon after he leaves office. Dems will do to the wall what pubs did to Obamacare. Dems that do not promise to take down that wall, will not win primaries. The base will not tolerate the symbols of appeasement. With his burn bridges tactics he will be so anathema that no part of his legacy will not have to be blown away, such is the hatred he ingenerates.

How long is this wall going to take anyway? Trump could be run out of office in a few months, or voted out in 2020. Projects like this can take forever and the costs keep going up. He can get a few billion to dig a few post holes now but who will continue the job? Does Pence care enough to chase it up? A possible democrat taking office after 2020? Who will keep asking for and chasing up the money to continue the project once the whole MGA thing has blown over?

By making this offer, he's not only holding the Federal Employees hostage with the shutdown, he's holding the DREAMers hostage for the wall.

If the wall cannot pass on its own merits and you need this many hostages, perhaps you should reconsider the wall.

Enough dems supported that compromise but trump was being an unbalanced wishy washy hack and his GOP senate doesnt move anything to his desk unless trump has approved the bill in advance so they do not look like fools or lose political capital. The same problem exists now. McConnell wont allow the bill that they voted for a month ago get back to the floor becaus trump is signaling he wont support it. They might have been persuaded had it not been for Trump's hostage drama. I say "might have" because at this point, Trump has disinvited himself from any and all negotiations.
It is fitting that Pelosi has disinvited him from giving his petulant State of the Union speech, as written, of course, by Herr Stephen Miller.

I understand Chuck and Nancy's position as it stands right now, but what you might not understand is, Trump squandered all his political capital with the both of them because of his unhinged antics.
