Current TV Series You'd Like To Recommend

Wife has been watching the Crown. She seems to like it. I'm not all that impressed.

Episode one of Picard was pretty good.

Picard season 1- watched the first episode. It was okay. A huge plothole at the back of my mind was thankfully explained away near the end so it made it good. Just feels weird that the show would be featuring a character who largely stayed in the Enterprise, so seeing him go off into space in the following episodes without that starship will be weird. 6/10

Killer Inside: Aaron Hernandez- a 3 part documentary about the ex-Pats player. It doesnt cover any new ground if you read the expose in that Boston newspaper about his life and the case. though its worthwhile if you havent. 6/10

Thieves of the Wood season 1- a Dutch historical series about a band of Robinhood like people in the forest who turn to banditry against cliched evil landowners and city nobles. It's standard stuff and so I didnt bother to finish it since I lost interest after the 4th episode. DNF- otherwise 5/10

Episode one of Picard was pretty good.

It’s the least Star Treky of all the Star Trek series. Kind of like Borne Identity with a bit of Blade Runner. It’s better than I thought it would be.

It's early but the production looks a lot better than Discover as well.

Glad you are enjoying MESSIAH.

I can sympathize with your economic woes about expensive cable. What ticks me off is that in the last two years my cable carrier has taken away the MGM movie channel, all the Cinemax channels and a few others. I used to get them all but now they are gone or I have to pay more for them. In two years I have seen my bill rise 35 dollars and get less for it.

As for newspaper subscriptions , it is aggravating. I pay for the NY Times because I want to support them but that is it.

HBO has had two seasons of SUCCESSION of ten episodes each year.

btw - have you seen PEAKY BLINDERS?

Agreed. Thanks for the answer about succession. The episode I described, the DWI accident, is it the end of season 1 or 2? I don't remember. It's the last one I saw before I cancelled HBO (when Game of Thrones ended - badly - I cancelled HBO).

No, I haven't seen Peaky Blinders, and haven't heard of it. What is it about, and what platform is it on?

I just finished the 10 episodes of Monarca, season 1, on Netflix. I loved it. 9 out of 10. Very solid Mexican series, good acting, interesting characters, well done; it's similar to Succession, actually, but with more violence.

Is Picard on Amazon Prime? I thought it was the new paying CBS streaming service.

I'm happy to see Jeri Ryan has aged well. :)

Its actually too much Bourne- it ought to be renamed Jane Borg lol.

Thinking about that first episode, it doesnt even feel like Trek at all- closer to Firefly, but with Trek references. Picard just seems like an old man with plenty of friends than a captain of a starship.

It streams on Amazon Prime outside of the US, otherwise you need CBS.

Im more or less a permanent expat now since I'm semi-retired and just write books lol.

So I'm looking forward to Picard...is the whole season available for streaming yet or just the first 2 episodes?

If all arent out yet, I'll wait to renew my CBS Online subscription. I let it lapse after I finished ST: Discovery.

Another one I like on CBS Online is The Good Fight, spin off off The Good Wife. That 3rd season should be coming up soon.

Picard streams one episode per week, so it might be advisable for you to wait until its done. :)

Ooh come on, we can watch old school from time to time. I just watched the second episode and I think Picard is growing into something really impressive. I think Patrick Stewart was right, it is time for there to be a really good Star Trek series based on Picard.

I have an American Amazon Prime account. What would happen if I used that log in but from a VPN proxy simulating presence in a foreign country? Would I get it to stream? I don't feel like subscribing to still another paying service like CBS.

Just watched the first season of - See. I enjoyed it. It stars Jason Momoa as a blind post apocalyptic warrior on a future earth where everyone is blind. Interesting concept.

It's a matter of cost, Pete. In the US there are plenty of streaming services, and subscribing to all of them is very expensive in the long run- especially if you get a service just to watch one show.

Thankfully I live outside of the US so I can get all of the shows I want since Netflix carries the stuff thats on minor services like Sundance, Hulu, CBS, Disney, and the like. But not everybody gets that advantage.

Youre right. Just watched episode 2 and its not bad at all. I dunno why but I always have low expectations of anything Trek nowadays, but thankfully this show is proving me wrong. The first episode felt like Jason Borg, this one is better and I hope it keeps up with the quality. Episode 2 rating: 7.5/10

One thing though, why would Picard use tea bags when he has a replicator?

LOL I guess you could try it, but if you have an American address as your primary then Jeff Bezos could end up sending Romulan goons to your house.

My friend, who is Swedish, uses his friend's Netflix account while he is in Asia, so it may be possible.

Because tea from a pot of well boiled water sounds a lot more appetizing than electronically created tea. He is a bit old school too now that he lives on his orchard.

CBS just put the first episode up on YouTube for free, so we will be watching.

We have caught the first two episodes of HBO's "The Outsider", a creepy Stephen King offering directed and produced and staring Jason Bateman, weird stuff, but compelling.

I liked first episode of Avenue 5, GF didn't, so I'll catch ep 2 sometime today. Likewise with Curb Your Enthusiasm, I absolutely love it, but can understand why some can't stomach Larry, its brilliant comedy, kudos to Larry David for writing a show that makes him look like such an awful person, he isn't that way in real life though.

But tea bags are silly- its a reflection of cheapness, even during this time. If he really wanted to be old fashioned then why not use an infuser or even a French press? :2razz:

And why does it feel like the Romulans are now sort of like refugees? Their empire was as big as the Federation, and so even if their homeworld went nova, surely they had other colonies, right?

They are refugees, and who knows how many are left.

Exactly.

Plus, my viewing habits really have changed now. At first, my Hulu live TV package didnt have ABC, so I couldnt watch the Rookie live, but thru Hulu, I could stream it the next day...so I ended up watching those in bunches too. I liked it for the continuity,

Hanging in there with TWD/FTWD but the three shows I really REALLY enjoyed are on hiatus right now:

1) Better Call Saul (we both were HUGE Breaking Bad fans)
2) Shameless (US version - not the lame UK original)
3) Ray Donovan

I may give Colony a try but Carlton Cuse pissed me off with the wrapup/finale of Lost SOOOOOO much...

As you might guess, I get a real kick out of shows that center around life as a train wreck for a main character and their families.

i started watching Better Call Saul the other day. my wife joined when i was a few episodes in, and now i think that we're probably both hooked. so far, this one has all of the good parts of that plus a lot of humor. we're still in the first season.
