Current TV Series You'd Like To Recommend

OK, I stopped Haunting of Hill House- it was awful. I hated the characters, the plotline was confusing because it kept going back and forth between flashbacks, and the producers just didnt get the source material. What made the original book so scary was because Shirley Jackson wrote about terror rather than actual horror. All the frequent ghostly encounters in this lousy adaptation got repetitive and became boring. 2/10

Now at Daredevil Season 3- much better than the lackluster season 2. I do like the addition of Bullseye and the return of Kingpin, though overall the series still seems to slow to set everything up properly. On episode 8 and its fine.

Coming up next- Bodyguard- its a British UK action thriller starring the guy who played Robb Stark on GoT.

Black Earth Rising.

BBC (of course) on Netflix (also, of course).

Excellent drama.

Rake on Acorn. Just binged Series 4 and 5.

Final verdict on Bodyguard: 6.5/10. Started off really well, but then the whole "fall in love with the woman you protect" felt cheap in the end.

Binged watched Narcos Mexico, the 4th season of this Netflix show and chronicles the rise of the Mexican drug cartels. Well done as usual, even though its more or less the same story, but with a more twisty ending. 8.5/10

What did you think of season 3? I watched the first 2 seasons and thought they were great, but just couldn't get into season 3. Hoping season 4 is good again.

I never read the book so I didn't have anything to compare the show to. That being said I enjoyed the show quite a bit and give it a 7.5/10.

S3 was okay, though the lack of a main villain like Escobar obviously weakened it, but overall I still liked it. Gallardo, the new bad guy in season 4, isnt quite as outrageous as Escobar was- he is more like a brooder, but just as lethal. I think you'll like this season

Also, I think you'll like this bit: minor spoiler

Escobar and the Cali cartel guest star in one episode. ;)

I don't watch a lot of TV, but the Bodygaurd hooked me from episode one, and I'm now on #3. Action done intelligently (if ferociously) and tailored to the character development. Really simpatico lead male, as well. I found it quite compelling.

The real pity is that I love horror, and can't think of a single TV series that ever rose to the level to be good horror.

PoS, It would be nice if it was just a story, but it isn't.

I am 5 episodes into this last season and it is interesting to me, because very soon I too will be making my move from Sinaloa to Jalisco to set up businesses.

They will, of course, be legal but the trek is still the same.

What burns me more than anything is that they didn't even come close to getting the license plates right on the cars. I know most people wouldn't notice that, but each state was assigned a certain letter series for their state and this show is way outside of that, for no good reason.

Also, there was a blue and white American 1979 Ford Pickup used in the show which would not have been in Mexico in the early '80s. The Mexican version has no rear side marker lights and still used the old 1972 tail lights.

I know it is a minor thing, but it is so easy to get it right.

Yeah, horror isnt easy to do- too many cliches and people scare differently. Its even harder for a series.

Shirley Jackson's book is a classic, probably the best haunted house book ever, the only one that comes close is Richard Matheson's Hell House. I suggest you grab the ebook and read it.

LOL now that is some serious nitpicking there. ;)

Maybe, but it just bugs me. It is not necessary. The series of plates they are using are not in use anymore, so they could have used the right letter series to differentiate the states and where the people were from.

I watched I, Claudius during my college days when they showed the whole miniseries on the Bravo Channel. I thought it was one of the best things I've ever seen- it was like Game of Thrones set in the Roman Empire. I have the DVDs, but I have a hard time watching it now because the production values are just awful- it looks like it was done on the cheap and in a TV studio. The acting and the plot is first rate, though.

I saw I, Claudius on the BBC when it was first released.

Best TV drama series ever.

Yes the BBC didn't have much money and what they did have they spent on getting great actors and good script writers.

Had the BBC spent more on the sets, it wouldn't have improved it at all IMO.

I enjoyed Rome on HBO...I wish they'd completed a third season and ended at the banquet that starts Ep 1 of I, Claudius.

Big news- Netflix cancelled Daredevil. Wow. I guess this means theyre getting rid of all their Marvel superhero shows since Disney will start their own Marvel franchise on their streaming service. Oh well.

Watergate 2018 Miniseries- if you havent read Woodward and Bernstien's book All the President's Men and The Final Days, this documentary will do the job. It's well done and very concise. Check it out. 8.5/10

Les Bureau Des Legendes
, or simply The Bureau (on Sundance network, or Netflix). If you're looking for a good spy thriller series, this is the best that's out there. It totally blows away Condor and Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan out of the water. 4th season is coming up, and I'm still catching up on the 3rd season right now. Excellent storylines, and they really show how spycraft is done, so its great research material for my books. Of course, its in French, so you have to read subtitles unless you speak the language. 9/10

Also finished Castlevania Season 2. Excellent anime. Very well done. 8.5/10

Oh and there's going to be a live adaptation of Cowboy Bebop soon!

Showtimes seven part series ESCAPE AT DANNEMORA directed by Ben Stiller has been excellent so far after the first three. Its nice to see something paced like this and unfold slowly and without being rushed. And the acting is superb.

I just finished watching "My Brilliant Friend" on HBO.
Very interesting story of two young friends growing up in post-WWII Sicily.
Season 1 dealt with their lives into their teens....16 or 17?
Despite some despicable, brutal behavior by some of the adults/parents, I enjoyed the series.
Looking forward to Season 2.

A friend at my gym recommended that the other day, I'm going to have to check it out.

Just be advised that the pacing is rather slow... some might say very slow. My wife tried to watch it and simply give up saying nothing happened to keep her interested.

But if you stick with it, and you enjoy watching some great acting, its very very good.

I bought Star Trek Discovery when it was released in Bluray. Also watched the first season of The Orville. Anyone liking Sci Fi, should watch these. The Orville is also filled with comedy.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot. I try to watch two or three episodes before I decide whether I like a show.

The Little Drummer Girl- this miniseries is a much better adaptation than the movie with Diane Keaton was. The reason being in the movie version Charlie was a totally naive waif, and in this new version she's more complex and daring. It's about the Isreali Mossad recruiting an English actress to penetrate a Palestinian terror group (based on the novel by John LeCarre). Its a bit of a ludicrous premise, but it somewhat works as entertainment. 7/10

I tried watching Maniac, but quickly lost interest.

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is pretty good.

The Patriot on Amazon is really funny, dark, well cast, well directed and super smart. So smart, in fact, that the part that is just rat**** stupid ruins the whole damn thing, because now all I can do is obsess over how that one stupid part ruins the entirety of season 1.

Free advice to film and television makers: if you're going to make a story that is smart, you're not allowed to make even one part of it that's stupid. Sorry, but you're the one who raised the bar that high, and now you have to maintain that high standard from start to finish.

Punisher season 2- just watched the first episode. Not bad, and was surprised to see Alexa Davalos in it (she plays the lead in Man in the High Castle). I think this series is good, but I have a feeling it will be canceled soon enough due to Netflix moving away from Marvel shows.

What I am not fond of is the Punisher keeps getting shot and beaten up in every episode and it just doesnt slow him down. He should have been a paraplegic by the end of season 1 from all the hits he took.

Crazyheads on Netflix a very british and original take on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
