Current TV Series You'd Like To Recommend

They have nearly secured a contract with Amazon.

Oh, fortunately! I hope they get it done. Amazon has good production values, like The Man in the High Castle, very well done. I think they can do justice to The Expanse.

The Expanse has been cancelled?? I can't believe it! The best Sci-Fi show of the last decade and one of the best ever... based on a superb book series which they very faithfully rendered... everything is perfect about this show, with unusually high quality for the SyFy channel... and they go and cancel it?

Unbelievable! I just watched last Wednesday's episode and it was superb!

Why in the hell was it cancelled?? :2mad:

PS - I googled it. Apparently the producers are trying to find a new home for the show. I hope they find it.

‘The Expanse’ Cancelled: No Season 4 for Syfy Drama | TVLine

Well SyFy has always been very cheap. If you look at their past programming, Sharknado is sort of like their high point. This network doesnt have the dinero to compete with the likes of Netflix, Amazon, HBO, etc.

I recommend Z-Nation. It's ridiculous in every sense of the word, but once you learn to embrace the ridiculousness of the show, it becomes very enjoyable.

Sometimes complete ridiculousness is best.
You don't even have to pretend it is real.

Remember that Jude Law movie, "Sky Captain, the World of Tomorrow"? Or something like that.
He flew a P-40 fighter plane that was also a submarine, and an aircraft carrier that was always up in the sky.

Yeah, sometimes it is a relief to not even pretend anything is reality based.

Yes, The Expanse was probably too expensive for them, because the special effects are superb and the acting is top notch. But if they migrate to Amazon it will be good; Amazon will do them justice.

Good, but that's not exactly what your link shows.
"sources note the deal is not closed."

Well big 'ol Jeff Bezos himself said The Expanse is saved, so I guess thats a confirmation.

Currently binge watching Silicon Valley- there is a conspicuous absence of TJ Miller- who was written out, but otherwise its still good for a few laughs.

Legion.

'Nuf said.

Watched a couple of episodes. Didnt like it. Too slow and convoluted. Plus unlikable characters.

A couple episodes isn't enough to know what the show is about.

Finished the first episode of Lost in Space. Not bad. More emphasis on science though its still a space opera. A little contrived in regards to plot since the family gets saved in the nick of time, but the characters are more well rounded and complex, so it's a good, fun family show. 7/10 so far.

I watched the first one and was meh, so was the mrs. One of her friends at work says it gets better so we'll give it another go once we finish season 2 of the Crown. But yeah definitely looks like a good family show.

I watched the entire season 1 of Lost in Space and found it rather dry and humorless, but with some interesting parts. I'm not crazy about it (I like The Expanse way more) but it's not as bad as some people made it sound in other online reviews, either.

I gave Legion a shot and I pass. Seems too contrived and like I said before, I have no sympathy for any of the characters in it.

Hey I missed recording the last 2 episodes...do you know where I can find it? HBO on Demand?

It's a pretty funny show.

Agreed. I like Dan what's his name too.

But Aubry Plaza does nothing for me.

Yes, I think HBO on Demand has all episodes of all shows that they broadcast.
I think Silicone Valley is currently less fun that in previous seasons. That guy who got booted out (for good reason) is being missed.

Oh yeah, I read about him. Yeah, and they should bring back Big Head but it looked like they did for the episodes I missed?

yes, if they get picked up for another season, they need to lighten it up again, I agree.

Do you have HBO Go? You should be able to get it from there. There's fewer laughs without TJ Miller, I think he was the funniest character on the show. Bighead only shows up as a cameo, and the Chinese guy is more annoying than funny.

HBO Go? Can I get that on my tablet?

Too bad about the Chinese guy...he's a riot. I agree, removing him to China was lame.

Agreed. That's precisely why I'm not liking the show as much. And Monica is really cute and sexy, they should use her more and in a more flirtatious way but she is also way too serious. I heard that they decided against the flirtation with Monica because they thought it would be sexist or demeaning. Gee! We want entertainment, and we want hot girls! Dammit!

11.22.63- Stephen King miniseries with James Franco (he's everywhere these days) as a teacher who finds a time portal. He tires to go back in time to prevent the assassination of JFK. starts off okay, but then goes into Twilight Zone. I didnt like it. 5/10

Peaky Blinders Season 4- didnt even know they came out with this until now. I thought it was cancelled. BBC's answer to HBO Boardwalk Empire with gangsters in the 1920's. The new bad guys are led by Adrien Brody and Tom Hardy is back as a Jewish gangster. All in all not bad, but the rock music is anachronistic. 8/10

The Jinx: Lie and Deaths of Robert Durst- documentary about a loathsome creature who gets away with not 1 but 3 murders. I couldnt stand watching it so I stopped after the 2nd episode. 5/10

Impulse

I never really get into the "teenage angst" movies or series, but this one has multiple facets that makes it more than that kind of show. I just finished watching the 10 episodes and I'm really looking forward to season 2.

Here's a review and a trailer:

In the upcoming YouTube Red Originals drama series IMPULSE, 16-year-old Henry Coles is an outsider in her new town of Reston, New York. With a major chip on her shoulder and no friends, she remains withdrawn and isolated, but everything changes when a traumatic encounter with a classmate triggers something deep within Henry— unleashing a power she cannot control.

note: I never saw "Jumper", so I wasn't influenced by that show like the review writer was.
