One problem - while you are correct that the Bill of Rights exists as a document that tells government what they cannot do as opposed to what people can do, voting is a government institution, which means that it's not applicable to infinite privilege. If you believe that voting is a right that "cannot be infringed", then that means you endorse 5 year olds, felons, and the mentally ill owning firearms without limitation.
Parameters exist for a reason - to enforce the bare minimums of security.
if you had bothered to check other posts I made, and you are under no compunction to do so, you would have read I'm AGAINST felons regaining the right to vote.
And congress is not restrained from infringing on voter rights.
Can you back up that fact?
I came into the thread late and was distracted by the Nat Pagle and ugly ass boots.
I'm in favor of bringing back corporal punishment, stocks, and public hanging!
Country club prisons don't seem to be much of a deterrent to criminals.
Cruel and unusual?
Ok, let's take a lesson from earlier epochs, and TRANSPORT criminals so they AREN"T enjoying the society they abused!
Now, where is a good remote harsh unpopulated land mass. Seems only Antarctica is left. Send them there! Dressed in a thong!
Don't know what to tell ya' - it's been that way at least since the 70's when I started voting ...
Ah! High school.
Carry on.
If I'm in high school, you're still in diapers, jr.
Voting rights are protected by five different amendments--more than any other right. I don't think that we need a sixth, so I voted No on the poll.
Missouri Bar Panel Makes Judge Reelection RecommendationsI've never seen a judge on a ballet.
I don't live in Missouri. Never have, hopefully never will.
I was just supporting my claim. I don't care if you live in Somalia or Seattle.I don't live in Missouri. Never have, hopefully never will.
I don't think voting should be a right, I think it should be a requirement. I think anyone who isn't recorded at a polling place should be fined.
I'm genuinely curious how felony disenfranchisement can be allowed under so many amendments protecting the right to vote.
That would be a horrible idea. Its bad enough we got the politically ignorant voting, why on earth would you want more of these people voting? Forcing someone to the poll is not going to make them informed about the candidates and ballot issues.
I don't think voting should be a right, I think it should be a requirement. I think anyone who isn't recorded at a polling place should be fined.
Agree 100%. The last thing we need is to increase the uninformed vote. I would love it if we had 100% participation if every citizen was politically informed, but I don't think that is at all realistic.
Are you crazy? The wealth leeching communists often garner more than 50% of the votes already. Get the rest of the crack smoking population involved and all you will hear is this giant sucking sound as they rob the people who create the wealth and make this country great and then take that money and spend it on their crack habit. You're going the wrong way. What we really need now is an authoritarian corporatocracy that knows how to protect and create wealth or we will end up like Russia did. Bankrupt and poor.
I don't think voting should be a right, I think it should be a requirement. I think anyone who isn't recorded at a polling place should be fined.
So inform them. Tell 'em what you think they need to know.
riminy, it's 'way too easy to get elected now, in a lot of cases.
It doesn't really matter what colour underwear the fawning scam artist who finally gets the most votes is wearing- we can at least make the bastard work a little harder for it.
I don't think voting should be a right, I think it should be a requirement. I think anyone who isn't recorded at a polling place should be fined.
