Conservatives mount a whisper campaign smearing Khashoggi in defense of Trump

Did I miss you telling us what your recommended response should be?
No you have not. I have not shared one yet. Im waiting for more information. My question is directed at those that are being critical of trump

shrug...

Jesus, himself, could say it. It would still mean nothing without a fact or two.

To you, even if Jesus did say it, it would be fake news unless your Messiah said it.

Why don't you tell us what happened then? Backed up with a fact or two.

Of course it's not necessary to know the correct response to recognize that what we've seen so far is an invitation to kill U.S. based journalists critical of the royal family. Pompeo should be ashamed of his 'efforts' so far. He looked like a sniveling lackey of MbS not a representative of the most powerful country on the planet.

The only thing I can tell you is that the Saudis say he's dead.

How do you know that's a fact? Do you believe everything the Saudi's say?

It IS a fact that the Saudis said he is dead.

Or...do you think the media is lying? That the Saudis didn't ACTUALLY say he's dead?

You're right. Perhaps I shouldn't believe the media reports.

It was a serious question - what do you think our response should be?

And my serious response is at a minimum we should send MbS into the diplomatic wilderness for a year or two or three until the guy learns some respect for the elder party in this alliance. Even the mob would demand that at least, and surely we've got at least that much for principles. His flunkies committed the murder - he shouldn't be able to hid behind, "Rogue killers!" It's insulting. MbS might as well flip the U.S. the bird.

Honestly,. I dont know what the appropriate action should be. We need to be outspoken in our condemnation but not to the point of destroying our relationship. They are an important ally. Bashing Trump, which seems to be the first, last and only goal of the left isnt accomplishing anything.

From the Washington Post...
Exact title: "Conservatives mount a whisper campaign smearing Khashoggi in defense of Trump"

Snippet:
Well, these actions are deplorable. We have an intrepid journalist murdered by the royal dictator family and all the apparatchiks in the Republican Party and their cronies in the right-wing media want to do is shield Trump from any and all criticism of his handling of this matter, which includes backing the royal dictators of Saudi Arabia.

When Muslim radicals murder one of their own in the Middle East the US should not get too involved. Surely Americans do not want to risk war with one of these rogue nations by undue meddling in their business. And why risk retaliation by Saudi Arabia in raising gasoline prices at Main Street American pumps over some foreign internal squabble?

If by "Muslim radicals" you mean the government of Saudi Arabia, a U.S. ally, which we supply armaments. And, if you mean by "one of their own," an journalist from an American newspaper whose family are American citizens, you are engaging in dishonest debate and buying into the right-wing attack on the victim.

The reality is that Saudi Arabia can threaten to raise gasoline prices but that would entail cutting their output, which means cutting their revenue. That would increase political unrest in Saudi Arabia -- a place ripe for overthrow. I don't think the ruling elite there wants an overthrow.

I don't know where you got the idea that this will lead to war either.

You might be surprised what little things can lead to wars. Some Americans are advocating military strikes on Saudi Arabia in response to the death of the journalist. Ironically some of these same bozos criticized Bush for implementing Congress' declaration of war against Hussein for his participation in thousands of murders of innocent people in the Middle East. Go friggin' figger.

"Some Americans" included the drunk at the end of the bar who babbles nonsense. I know of no person of respect or authority advocating military action.

The proper, measured, response is to expel the Saudi Ambassador until his government agrees to independent investigations and cooperation. Please share specifically the names of those who criticized Bush for implementing Congress' declaration of war against Iraq now advocating military action against Saudi Arabia.

Of course the "Trump bashing" is because his reaction so far, and especially Pompeo's performance in SA and Turkey, has been that of a sniveling sycophant of the royal family, which is the complete opposite of "outspoken condemnation."

This latest story is insulting, for example, and presumably they ran that by us and got approval by us before going with it. No one who's not a moron believes he died as the result of a "fight" with a team of 15 security people, especially when that BS story came after weeks of them insisting he left the consulate in good health and they were mystified about what happened. And yet so far the official response is we're buying it, and we've got no problems with MbS heading up an "investigation" into the death inflicted by his closest aides and security team.

No, the snowflakes are not advocating a strong Trump response. They just criticize Trump no matter how he responds.

I'm guessing you've never heard of "Conflict of Interest." I suggest you read about it, once you do, you will understand why your comment is stupid.

What is deplorable about stating facts about the man?

Maybe it messes with your preferred narrative?

NO,It is merely the FACTS and the Horror of the facts...also highlights Trumps Bedfellows, these people are Sub-Human but Trump defends them

Wrong people are merely stating the Horrific Facts and as usual Trump has to be dragged kicking and screaming to the reality and facts of the matter...the Guy is Hopeless

You hit the 10 inch nail on the head,friend…...Trump is Pathetic...always CASH BEFORE HONESTY

"Little Things" are you referring to Trumps Brain here ???? if you are,it is the most honest post you have made

She's the expert, what with her Evangelical Christian values imparted by her father.

You have to admit though Just, she is the Master or rather Mistress of deflection,in the Whitehouse and scrambler of the irrational machinations of Trumps Brain power or lack of it...Whatever he pays her could never be enough...she is excellent at her job...steve

A whispering campaign or whisper campaign is a method of persuasion in which damaging rumors or innuendo are spread about the target, while the source of the rumors seeks to avoid being detected while spreading them (for example, a political campaign might distribute anonymous flyers attacking the other candidate)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whispering_campaign

Known people telling the truth about a guy between themselves does not meet the definition of "Whisper Campaign".

I detest these sorts of lies through abuse of language which are intended to damage the reputations of people.

We used to be better than this.

Would help if you read the article and what was alleged, which is lawmakers who were unwilling to go on the record smearing Khashoggi were sharing articles about his 'terrorist ties' with friendly outlets who were in turn making the public accusations.

Telling the truth is no a smear.....what have they said that was a smear?

Edit: Perhaps this is closer to the truth than you are:
It is merely to say that the story of the kingdom and the Brotherhood is not a simple morality play, and that those claiming Khashoggi’s Brotherhood sympathies as some kind of black mark reveal nothing so much as their ignorance of the kingdom, the region, and its history
