Should the band change their name? Why or why not?

Probably, but it may serve more useful purpose to continue advertising that Country Music is racist.

You're not from the south, are ya?:2razz:

This is their choice, just as it is ours to question the name.

Their music is fantastic...one of the most underrated country music bands ever...

Folks certainly don't have to listen to this band or buy their products. I don't.

They should keep their band's name.

If they wanted it, which they obviously did, they should keep it, even if it does glorify slavers and traitors, that is their business, no matter how foolish.

They should just not be surprised if they lose out on more venues because of it.

No doubt like minded fools will step up and give them a stage to perform on.

Keep the name, just drop all the pretense there isn't anything racist or treasonous about the theme the name glorifies.

I agree with you that anyone and everyone who listens to country western music absolutely has no place in the Democratic Party and should vote straight Republican in every election for every office. So should all senior citizens, all Christians, all white people, all blue collar workers, everyone without a college degree, anyone with over 2% body fat, and everyone else who doesn't live on the Northeast or West Coast of the United States.

The Democratic Party is always desperately trying to erase US history to erase their own past.

Who should change their name is THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY!

1. First President - genocide of Native Americans, slave owner.
2. Started the most deadly war in US history - sedition - to try to form a Democratic Party slave nation
3. Created the KKK
4. Responsible for countless murdered and torture of blacks
5. Outlawed inter-racial marriages
6. Established share-cropping
7. Jim Crow laws and forced racial segregation

Because of its history, it would be reasonable to assume anyone who calls themselves a "Democrat" is a racist or they would be too embarrassed to call themselves that - or they are so stupid they do not even know the most basic of American history.

Just change their band's name to something more patently offensive, like Lynching Darkies. They couldn't buy the amount of free publicity that they would get. And The Donald will invite them to perform at the WH. They could perform at his next & later inauguration balls.

They have a right to keep the name.

They are not going to get me to buy a ticket, but they will get tickets sold apparently.

Picking a name that is controversial may be their only memorable thing.

They look old and will likely not be a huge long term touring draw.

If the bans come as fast as they get booked they may think of changing it. (Not likely)

The lead singer doesn't like the new America where people have become influenced by the "Me Too" way of thinking.

Enough is what people are actually saying.

I will no longer ignore offensive actions, statements, names or beliefs without asking questions or voicing their disapproval.

Technically they have once already, they were originally called the democratic republican party then later got switched to the democratic party. While the republican party did not change names it was a transfer of the whig party, where not too long before the civil war the whigs abandoned ship and were joining the republican party, which is why the whig party is considered the direct ancestor to the gop.

Of they could just call themselves the "Democrat Railroad" - although it would mean exactly the same thing as the "Confederate Railroad," wouldn't it?

Now the GOP is a transfer to the Trumpets party.

Why change their name, they have good music and have had the band name since 87 and were double platinum in 1992, seriously they are not like a new band or anything, they have been around quite a while, if someone is just now offended by the name of a band whose singers are at retirement age then they either must be oblivious to the world around them or just like to complain for the sake of complaining.

I can bet all of those complaining about the name have never heard any of their music or knew that is a pretty old band not some new band.

The Democratic Party is always desperately trying to erase US history to erase their own past.

This is such a bizarre right wing talking point. Who is trying to erase history? We all know the history of the South, that it was blue dog Democrats for about a century, Jim Crow, etc. No one denies this.

So why do you right wingers always make this claim? It's just made up. Can you quote anyone trying to erase this past?

What we also know is the parties have changed since the 1960s, and that in 2019 people longing for the good old days of Jim Crow in this era are white southern Republicans. Which party in S.C. objected to taking the Confederate flag off the capitol? The GOP. Who in Tennessee, for example, wants the state to continue honoring N.B. Forrest? The GOP. Etc.

These guys have been a band since 1987 and have 18 songs that have charted.

Step into the 21st century for at least a moment.

You live in the 19th century.

Your quotes and "facts" all stem from a past that isn't alive today.

The Democrats and Republicans of today have nothing in common to the ones from the past you invoke.

I think they should keep their name and their theme, they obviously have their base to play to and who will buy their music and go to their concerts, just like Trump has his base who will follow him around at his rallies regardless of how racist his speech and actions are. If that band thinks they'll be welcomed with open arms in every state in America, then they're as delusional as Trump.

So what.

Weinstein was active on issues such as poverty, AIDS, juvenile diabetes, and multiple sclerosis research, he served on the Board of the Robin Hood Foundation, a New York City-based non-profit that targets poverty, and co-chaired its annual benefits.

Weinstein was a very successful movie maker with academy award nominations and critical acclaim.

American society did not care when his actions with women came out.

He wasn't judge on his triumphs he was judge on his tragedies.
