Anyone else use a Chromebook? I destroyed my HP Windows ten laptop by spilling a drink on it, toast...RIP lost it all

So i brought the cheapest, full sized laptop at WalMart Acer Chromebook 15 CB3-532. Just under 2 hundred after tax. Camera, video and speakers are better than my 3 yo 3hundred dollar HP. Closes down and opens, much quicker.

It's a learning curve, coming from windows 10, keyboard is a bit different but i am very pleased. Not doing anything but posting and browsing. Had it about a week, zero complaints. Lots of boob tube tutorials. If you are not doing lots of of big downloads or other functions, cant beat the value. An SD card can double (IRRC) the memory but i highly doubt i will ever need it.

Any other Chromebook users, especially Acer's?

Will it play Crysis?

My apologies, i did not realize you were talking about a game.

Don't worry about it. It's kind of a joke.

About

But Can It Run Crysis? is a phrase referring to the 2007 Crytek first-person shooter Crysis, underscoring the reputation the game has obtained for it's steep system requirements at the time of its release. The phrase has slowly evolved into a snowclone as years pass, substituting "But can it run X?" for the most recent and system-demanding title at the time.

This is interesting and trumps windows ten.

Win10 has sandbox mode...and guess what...you have a choice to use it or not.

Interestingly, I have a small laptop that they use for a Chromebook, but is also offered in a Windows 10 version (which I have). It came with a 16GB SSD, and I found out the hard way that it didn't have enough space left on the SSD to install Windows 10 updates! How ****ty is that?

So I put a 240GB SSD in it and installed Linux. Runs much faster!

I have really tried to learn to love Chromebook. I havent managed to yet...but Im trying.

Manipulating documents is different...and I reckon using the Google Docs version of the Office products is just a learning thing. I dont think you can download games and play them but if most of your apps are media, internet, and office...its a good deal. Fast, long battery life, docs saved can be accessible by other systems. Its just not a fully functioning laptop.

I just post and browse, stream live TV to my TV via HDMI cable. Some of those gaming computers are insanely priced.

Should work fine. Chromebooks are light and have great battery life so they make for a good commuter system.

I am on my second Chromebook, and I also have an Asus Chromebox. My wife is terrible about internet security, and the last time she had a Windows computer she had it so screwed up with malware, viruses, and other internet crap. I got her an Asus Chromebox and after a few years and two monitors we have not had any more trouble with malware.

I do a lot of text processing and I keep all of my documents on Google drive. Getting a wireless printer to work was a pain but the good thing is that the protocols are attached to your username and not your device so you can go from one to the other and still access your documents and print.

Google docs has come a long way and in the time I have had Chrome devices Google has come up with a Google docs you can use offline.

Good value and safe.

Never owned a chromebook but new people who did, if you mostly use it for internet they work just fine, if you need to play games or use high end apps, they suck, because most of those are for windows with the exception of high end apps for business with many being macosx or linux as well as windows.

Truthfully windows is eating the chromebook market, many laptops are barely more now than a chromebook with full windows, and some with a dumbed down version of windows for the same price as a chromebook that you can actually revert back to a full version of windows with minimal work for free(microsoft actually allows it they just don't tell you about it upfront as the dumbed down version only installs apps from the microsoft store and blocks third party)

A lot of us moved away from Windows because we don't want Windows.

I own 2, Acer and Asus.. I owned 1 of the very 1st Chromebooks, a Samsung way back in 2012 or so. My wife has 1, as do a couple of my kids.. so obviously I like them.

My only complaint with them is the printer set-up.. It is a PITA..

Most schools are going to them because they are inexpensive, very secure and fast as hell..

I'm happy, i wont be doing any printing. Only two gripes, the date is not displayed by the time, and the power button is directly above backspace. It has not been an issue but it seems the power button should not be right above one of the most commonly used keys.

Not for me I'm afraid, I used one for a couple of weeks and whenever there was no wifi around it was just a pretty brick. I believe some of the apps now work when away from the internet but Chromebooks won't be much good until 5G or better are universally available.
But then, the prospect of smart devices everywhere and the potential for 24/7 monitoring and tracking doesn't appeal to me.

if you hate windows and want more funtionality that chrome, try linux.

I've used Linux for years, but for now all I have to run it on is an antiquated laptop.

While my move was not intentional, i dont miss it. at. all.

I certainly wont miss the updates that take forever: "windows, we use your computer so you dont have to".

The only thing I really miss is being able to record a CD, but then, my new car doesn't have a CD player anyway. Guess I'll have to buy the White Album again....

Use you cell phone as a hot spot..

Or get a Chromebook with 3g.. I have 2. BUT I use my phone as a hot spot so I seldom use the built in 3g on my Chromebook anymore.

I could do, but I need several power applications which don't run on Chromebooks. Oh, and wifi packages in the UK for hotspots are horrendous. I'd have to sell my children to make it viable......

I've gone one I'd sell.!

Linux runs pretty smooth now a days except the whole flash thing, flash pretty much screws over any non windows users which is terrible since much of the internet requires it. Non windows users either get no flash plugin, a crappy outdated buggy plugin, or need third party buggy programs mimicing flash plugin.
