The link in your post to the WSJ did work. I did not walk the WSJ reference back to see if it was real.

This looks exactly like the sort of fake news story that the Russians inserted into the right wing consciousness via social media in 2016.

Indeed, ABC was one of the news outlets that the Russians mirrored when they were planting this stuff.

It’s clearly intended to appeal to the fears and prejudices of unsophisticated people. It’s the old Fu Manchu play.

After all the scams and urban legends that are routinely promoted on right wing media, and by nefarious operators playing on the fears and prejudices of folks who don’t get out much, it’s amazing that many people still take this sort of nonsense at face value.

The story is not only old (2012) but it's kind of sensationalized. I think the "human flesh" is just placenta. I think it's gross but it seems some people do this.

It’s an urban legend.

It’s the kind of thing that dates back into the 19th century. Back in the days when Europeans look on “deepest, darkest” Africa, and the always “inscrutable” Oriental with a combination of fear, awe, and mystery.

Read “The Mystery of Dr. Fu Manchu”, written by and Englishmen under the pen name Sax Romer. They were adventure stories for teenage boys. Their heroes, two rough and ready Englishmen battled with the inscrutable Fu Manchu , in much the same manner as Holmes and Watson did battle with Dr Moriarty.

Fu Manchu possessed magical powers that could shift place and time, engaged in white slavery, and was always shouted in a cloud of opium or other mysterious drugs.
