Chinese citizen journalist Chen Qiushi missing in Wuhan after critical reports on coronavirus outbreak

Chinese human rights lawyer Chen Qiushi, 34, who has been missing since last Thursday, had been posting regular updates about conditions inside the coronavirus epicentre on social media since January 24.

Mr Chen arrived in Wuhan on the last train just before the city went into lockdown, and his reporting has been seen as defying the Chinese Communist Party's tight grip on information around the outbreak.

"How can you call yourself a reporter if you dare not to go to the frontline at the earliest possible time when there is a disaster," hesaid in a video on his YouTube channel after arriving in Wuhan.

You make fun of someone's accent? That's a second language for them. How's your Chinese?

You act like a racist liberal.

City streets in Chinese cities are virtually abandoned with only an empty city bus crawling past now and then.

Shops and factories remain closed.

Xi "asked" some places to open for at least a part of each day, namely pharmacies, 24 hour convenience stores and some indoor food markets. Pharmacies have a barrier at the door so people don't enter and simply say what they want to buy and the owner goes and gets it. KFC is open however it does the same door barrier as people order while standing outside at the doors.

In some cities around Wuhan in Hebei province residents of high rise buildings are being locked inside and prohibited leaving as simple noodles and water are deposited by police in the lobby.

Those stores and shops that are open check everyone's temperature on entering as do the private security personnel at each residence high rise building on reentering. Two man police motorcycle patrols have been increased in number and frequency 24 hours and ambulances with lights flashing cruise the empty streets.

Tens of millions of Chinese who traveled home to their villlages in mid January for the New Year holiday are still required to stay put rather than mob the transportation system to return to the cities. First quarter economy data for this year is already a KO and its gonna have to be evacuated to intensive care in a grave condition.

Xi meanwhile has one thumb in his mouth and the other in his ass playing ready switch. Xi and the Party are taking severe hits by ordinary Chinese talking to one another about this massive catastrophe in China. Folk say they feel like it's a thousand years ago redux.

1. Imitating accents is not racist.

2. I’m mocking the lying SOB Chinese Communist government. The one Bloomingidiot doesn’t think is a dictatorship. It was obvious, and obviously done flewed right over yer hed.

What do you think happened to Mr. Qiushi? Getting VIP attention?

This is definitely a turning point in China in the relationship of the Party and the People. While we know the coronavirus catastrophe isn't going to bring down the Party presently or anytime very soon a lot of bricks have popped out of the wall the CCP Boyz in Beijing have constructed to protect themselves politically.

The underlying problem of the economy being on a downward trend line since Xi came to full power in 2013 presents the basis of popular unease and dissatisfaction. The Party's abysmal repressing of the handful of doctors who in Wuhan in December broadcast the initial alarms about the virus has gripped the mass of Chinese as no single issue has seized 'em since Tiananmen in 1989. While the PLA in 1989 when into Tiananmen with tanks and guns blazing the present corona massacre is much more widespread affecting the daily lives of the mass of the population in their own communities and homes, in their abandoned workplace, their closed schools and shops and so on.

Xi is laying low rather than assert a high profile that he knows would surely exacerbate the hostility toward the Party and its authority and authorities yet the damage is done. Xi has withstood three separate coup attempts two of which were led unsuccessfully by the top general of PLA plus one failed political coup by a Party power from the huge metro center Chongching in the southwest.

We can be certain at this point Xi's virulent enemy in the still powerful opposing faction of the Party, former Pres. Jiang Zemin is sharpening his vast repitior of knives long and short and that Jiang -- being the ogre he himself is -- will apply them at some point presently or in the immediate future, which is yet another reason Xi is laying low, ie, to focus on Jiang and his band of revitalized Party men who continue to permeate the system despite Xi's disguised anti corruption campaign that focused on Jiang and his muscle men.

Moreover and vitally Jiang continues to have the PLA in his camp given their resistance to Xi's program to make the PLA into a copy of the integrated USA armed forces and that has been a disaster for the inferior PLA commanders who just can't get up to that speed and who resent profoundly the training embarrassments imposed on them by Xi as the recently self declared commander in chief. As to Xi and Jiang they are oil and water, Xi being the kind and gentle public face of evil while Jiang has always been bold, strident, loud and imperial. Jiang hasn't any hesitation to make clear to the world China and the USA are enemies and that CCP will act in accordance with the fact. Each side is presently preparing for the clash so this will be interesting indeed as it unfolds.

I wouldn’t say their demise will not happen with the coronavirus being the catalyst. Who knows? Stranger things have happened. I cannot recall the lockdown of an entire province... can you?

This thing is potent, and that it can be latent for weeks before exploding does not bode well for the Chinese... or any nation... sans a medical solution... which doesn’t seem to be forthcoming.

You bring up another point, which I’ve used a few times before... the Chinese have 1.3 Billion mouths to feed.

It’s a police state, but what happens when the country has an epidemic which wipes out hundreds of thousands... even millions? Time will tell... tick-tock.

We have no idea what the real numbers are... just as we did not know what WMD Saddam still had because he didn’t let the inspectors inspect and brought zero confidence to the inspections with his lies and games.

I have zero confidence in the Communist Chinese government. Typical of Communists... they lie about everything.

What will happen to this brave woman?
