China retaliates with tariffs on $75 billion of US goods

So you're okay with China screwing us over economically with currency manipulations, Cyber/HUMINT industrial espionage and IP theft just to name a few?

why not explain, specifically, how china is screwing us over economically.

thanks

Well, someone has an appetite for Chinese propaganda....:chew:

Chew on this instead....

Volatility makes people millionaires.

Do your homework.

Read the signs.

We shall overcome.

The U.S. will prevail.

no, that's your spin on what i said because you support anything that this idiot does. if you can duck back into real reality for a second, imagine that the president is a Democrat and is using these powers for a trade war that you don't support. if you can manage that, you might be able to see why one person shouldn't be able to start a global trade war uncontested. if not, well, i'm not surprised.

More accurately, we had a democrat president not that long ago who did exactly nothing. Democrats don’t take economic problems seriously. As evidenced by the “free everything” pandering, they don’t take America’s cash flow seriously, either.

Just imagine the daunting task our next President will have? And some things are broke, likely never to come back. No way is China ever going to fully re-establish soybean trading with us, after now establishing new infrastructure around the world. Thanks, Trump!

Grandpa Napoleon Chan: “For the want of a soybean, the nation was lost”....

How many U.S. corporations depend on those goods from China? We cannot afford to lose access to China either. Don't you think the Chinese know this? TPP was specifically designed to confront China and Trump bailed on it. He has also alienated Europe and is supporting the disaster of a no deal Brexit too. Putin could not have asked for a better ally in his war with the West. Some of us saw this coming years ago.

I'm not arguing we don't need access to their markets; this will become more important as their middle class grows. From a manufacturing perspective it's also interesting since they've been outsourcing their manufacturing as well.

You can't "decouple" from the global economy.

We can decouple from the Beijing CCP economy.

Vietnam has gained 8% of its GDP on its increased exports to the USA since the trade war.

Taiwan has the second largest gain.

Thailand.

Indonesia.

Chile, Mexico, Kenya, India, Bangladesh, and a dozen others are gaining manufacturers due to the lower cost of labor. The USA labor market is not competitive with these and a dozen other countries' labor markets to which manufacturing in China is relocating. Home Depot just said it would transfer some of its operations to Vietnam. Apple is reducing its China production by 25% in favor of Vietnam and Taiwan....and so on.

Vietnam, Taiwan winning the US-China trade war

It's not China or the United States but the likes of Vietnam, Taiwan and Chile that have emerged as the winners of the trade dispute between the world's biggest economies, a new report shows.

Economists at Japanese investment bank Nomura have found evidence that importers in the US and China are increasingly sourcing goods from third countries to skirt the tit-for-tat tariff hikes imposed by their governments on certain Chinese and US products.

The report found that Vietnam has so far been the biggest beneficiary of the trade diversion, gaining 7.9% of its gross domestic product (GDP) as a result of increased exports to both China and the US. Taiwan, Chile, Malaysia and Argentina are the other big winners.

The countries benefited more from demand from US importers as a result of US tariffs on China than from the Chinese ones looking to avoid Beijing's tariffs on US goods

The global economy is the solution.

Exactly. Trump was sort of right when he said "It's easy to win a trade war...". "...for the people making the rules. The rest of you are screwed".

What the American people have done is essentially given a 5 year old the keys to a Fannie May candy store.

The post cold war world order is collapsing much faster than I thought it would.

I have a feeling Chinese leadership was expecting this, which is why they removed term limits for their president last year. That would provide some stability in what they expected to be a tumultuous few years.

Every China dynasty has failed because the solution to crises is to increase the authority and the power of the ruler. This has always guaranteed Chinese disaster. The dynasty collapses and chaos ensues until a new ruler chops off enough heads to gain power, authority, control.

The CCP Boyz in Beijing are a new dynasty of emperors in business suits. They are a young and nervous dynasty. They know that the history of dynasty in China against Western dominant countries is catastrophic. Yet the CCP Dynasty of grandiose Chinese emperors are doing what the tunnel minded Chinese have done for thousands of years, ie, increase the authority and the power of the ruler.

It's rinse and repeat in China and it never changes because the Chinese refuse to learn. The refusal comes from arrogance and being both smug and set in concrete. The China Fanboys aren't any better at recognizing or correcting this than are the Chinese themselves. Time is not on the side of the Chinese as they only recycle it -- every time.

Trump is single-highhandedly destroying America.

It's almost as if he's acting in the interests of our enemies. Same could be said for Moscow Mitch McConnell.

There is no foreign child slave-labor sweatshop the Democratic Party doesn't love. With their losing the Civil War and creating their own slave nation to have non-whites making their products cheap, the Democratic Party at least can have their non-white foreign slaves laboring to make their products for them cheap - provided their slavery operation isn't within the USA.

They usually fail after 200 years or so. So by those accounts the current dynasty has a good 140 years left

Do any of you Democrats remember when the Democratic Party's slogan was "Buy American" and supported trade unions by supporting restrictive tariffs and opposing immigration by foreigners who would take Americans blue collar jobs, drive wages down, and make conducting a successful strike impossible to win?
Now the Democratic Party furiously - "progressive" rather than "liberal," - furious demands the USA become just one state of an International Corporate Fascist world they totally control, including totally controlling all information flow by the MSM, press and Internet - ranting against tariffs and demanding unlimited foreign immigration to totally trash American wages and social programs for Americans literally driving Americans into homelessness on a mass scale.

Given that Trump hates losing anything, I beg to differ.

China's economy has been floundering well before this trade war. If US companies decide to leave, it would really hurt them.

China's economic slowdown is real, but it's not just about tariffs - CNN

LOL 6% growth is what you call "floundering". The CBO forecasts 2.3% U.S. GDP growth this year falling to 1.8% in 2020. China is in far better shape to withstand a downturn than we are and they know it. Hating it or not, Trump has made his "empire" from losing repeatedly and that is not going to help him one bit now.

Every China dynasty has failed because the solution to crises is to increase the authority and the power of the ruler.
Another thing which may have been a factor is the fact that governments tend to crumble over the centuries.
ymmv

It's one thing not to approve of a president's policy as that might be resolved by voting in 2020, but to continue with the hateful propaganda that Trump is in this trade war for any other reason than in the long run, (opposing China's intellectual dishonesty and our trade imbalance with them), is the right thing to do. Some president had to do it! Why not Trump? Oh, because it's Trump... exactly why I call a lot of the replies on this thread nothing but self-serving phony outrage.

Putting the U.S. in a recession with an ill-conceived and highly risky trade war that he is now losing was not the way to deal with our disputes with China. No matter how noble the cause (and Trump overstated it greatly) it is results that matter. Obama had a plan with the TPP which would have pitted us AND an alliance of our trading partners against Chinese trade aggression but no...Trump knows best and now we are up a creek with no paddle. :lamo

Our corporations also NEED Chinese goods. Like it or not 1000's of companies will go broke without them.

I fear the above is based on wishful thinking.

If you have children and care about future generations, you'd agree that there is no time like the present to deal with this China nonsense.

I remember it. I was a Democrat at the time... and then something astonishing happened.
Buy American, support unions, hire Americans, America first became racism, and Globablism and importing junk from China and importing workers from around the world became the answer to everything.

I'm pointing out to the China Fanboyz the fact that every China dynasty has failed. This is beyond dispute as it is fact. Several thousands of years of 'em going back to B.C.

Yet you and the Boyz in Beijing are trying to jiggle the numbers. Good luck with that. You'll need it because all you're trying to do is to use the average as the baseline. Some dynasties didn't last an American baseball season or the 20 years you can get in the military.

Each dynasty has failed because its answer to challenges and crises is to increase the power and the authority of the emperor and his dynasty of mandarins. CCP is a dynasty of emperors in business suits. The Party are the mandarins in business suits.

The number one of 'em all is the top priority of each and every dynasty -- power, money, corruption. Take the money and run. It's what the private capitalists in China are doing as capital continues to flee the CCP Rube Goldberg economy and financial system at $1 Trillion a year as Xi Jinpingpong continues to show his pasted on happy face.

Why did Trump "blink"? Negotiations require some give and take and Trump did a little give. You guys whine and moan with he holds the line and tnen whine and moan when he eases up.

Because it underscores the chaotic nature of all Trump's ventures and the fact that he has no plan to win mostly because there is no plan to win in a trade war. Everybody loses.

Yes that is what happened when Republicans were in charge and it started with Reagan.
