Is a "traditional" American cheese cake a pie? Or a cake?

Why?

I have no opinion on the matter, however I should like to point out that Paula Deen's Pumpkin Cheesecake is excellent and excellent for this time of year:

I’m going with neither. It doesn’t have flour, so it’s not a cake. And since it doesn’t have a gooey filling like chocolate cream or lemon meringue? It’s not a pie either. If I had to call it SOMETHING, it would simply be “delicious.”

It is superior to both pie AND cake, so neither. :)

Cake. It says so right in the name. They even have a factory named after it.

What's the matter? Chicken?

No, I would say that well over 99.9% of the questions out there I dont have an opinion on for one reason or another, sometimes because as a man of the East I dont share this Western compulsion to put everything into separate piles.

In this case I dont care if it is a cake or a pie, I only care that it is good.

Try Paula Deens recipe, you will not be sorry.

More pie than cake. It's a piecake. :2wave:

Happy Thanksgiving all! Going to eat some pumpkin pie soon!

It's a pie because it's a custard.

Raise your hand if you own your own spring form pan.

Especially if the main ingredients are nothing more than cream cheese, sugar, and eggs.

Plus if there's a crust...yes, it's a pie.

It's a pie. Cakes don't have crusts.

You forgot the vanilla and also the secret ingredient. ;)

It has a crumb crust, and it's baked, so it can't not be a pie.

Nope. I make my own NY style cheesecake. Takes a total of 6 hours, but OMG it's good!

It’s a dessert. It’s own category, just like ice cream or mousse or cookies.
