CBS is ending ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ next year

But what source would you trust on the financials that would know better ?

That would have to be audited, and CBS-Paramount could block that in court.

Bottom line, I don't believe them when they say that the successful Late Show is losing money. It's a cover story and a terrible one at that.

But you will provide no evidence and dispute any evidence to the contrary?

This is not a court of law. I am not required to produce Paramount-CBS's balance sheet to have an opinion about it.

Now will you admit that something is fishy about this show cancellation?

I don't know if CBS was losing $50 million per se, but it wouldn't surprise me if they were losing money and not turning a profit anymore.

Cable TV is a dying medium. Most people watch streams, Netflix, TikTok or other kinds of entertainment. I have read this from other sources as well, not just CBS.

Just recently ESPN had to fire a lot of people also because they were losing so much money

Letterman and Leno were lucky, they got out at the right time and made a fortune

No, I’m prepared to believe the show lost money given the evidence provided.

So you take CBS at their word. We are just going to have to agree to disagree.

CBS is not cable.

You mean to tell me that the most popular late-night show of that time slot is a failure? You have a strange standard of what success is.
I mean to tell you that live broadcast network TV is dead. Before that, late night shows were already dead. Nnobody watches Colbert anymore and whatever his face his on the other Late Night TV show...I dont even remember his name, do you? Exactly. These are not Letterman and Leno, to say the least.

Its not about success/failure, its about paradigm shifts away from this. Cord cutting is in, cable (/network) is out. And its been clear for a while now. Point being, Colbert was expendable to begin with already, he just is not worth any sort trouble.

Your loathing for another country’s president is hilarious.

Why?
I didn't have the same reaction to previous Presidents because they did nowhere as much shit as Trump.
The US is an important ally for the UK and I'm interested in US politics as a whole so why shouldn't I have an opinion on him.

I was never as much of a fan of Obama (I think he was a good President just not the second coming as some people thought) as some for example.
I thought he could have tried harder on gun control for example.

Because you don’t respect the free will of our people to choose, vote as they want.

Please show where I've ever said Americans shouldn't have a right to vote for Trump?
I think its a terrible choice but I will always give them that choice.
You guys are free too vote for any idiot you want but I can also say that choice is rubbish.

I'm all for democracy and the power of the vote.

Well, would you?? Answer the question.

Do you really think these shows are making money when their audience keeps dwindling every year??

More baseless hypotheticals by you.

Audience share across linear is on the decline, so that it's losing money isn't surprising, especially the odd time slots where people tend not to watch as much. I think they're doing this prematurely, but they also have a deal in the works, and I suspect there's going to be more of these kind of cuts when it happens. Many of Paramount's brands have been stale for years, especially in the cable side. Skydance's big interest is in the movie studio and the IP.

zzzzzzzzz...so boring. You people need a new schtick.

This is the Republican Party now:

Trump Supporter (Connor): "So I would say that with Trump being anti-constitution, I don't really care to be quite frankly because in regards to the Constitution, the Constitution is a document that should seek to serve us. And when it fails to seek to serve us, that can be amended. Laws can be changed. The fact is we're defending things in this country that shouldn't be defended. The 1st Amendment should not defend pornography and making children and women be victimized... I think things like blasphemy shouldn't be allowed per the 1st Amendment. I think that there are a lot of legal processes that are enabling criminals and bad people to fully enact their will in this country in the name of the Constitution or following the Constitution. So quite frankly, if Trump is anti-constitution, good and I think he should go further."

HASAN: "So this is, this is wonderfully revealing of the modern conservative mindset. So I appreciate you spelling it out so openly. Um, just checking. Do you support the Second Amendment?"

Trump Supporter: "I do."

HASAN: "Okay. Surprise. I was shocked to hear that. I'm saying that Donald Trump is defying the 1st Amendment, the 4th Amendment, the 5th Amendment, the 14th Amendment. He's thinking of defying the 12th and 22nd Amendments. You're saying you don't care about the Constitution, but actually you do because you quite like the Second Amendment. You just don't like the bits that you disagree with. Can I just be clear on that?"

Trump Supporter: "Yeah. Absolutely. I'm more than willing to amend it and include"

HASAN: "Whenever it's in your favor."

Trump Supporter: "Yeah. Absolutely."

HASAN: "So can Democrats do the same when they're in office?"

Trump Supporter: "No. Absolutely not."

HASAN: "So, you don't believe in Democracy?"

Trump Supporter: "No, I don't. Absolutely not."

HASAN: "What do you believe in?"

Trump Supporter: "Autocracy."

--

HASAN: "How would Connor’s America look?"

Trump Supporter (Connor): "Well, I think we would deport people who shouldn't be here."

HASAN: "I didn't ask about deporting. What does the government look like?"

Trump Supporter: "I would say, quite frankly, it's under a sort of benevolent leader."

HASAN: "Where does he come from?"

Trump Supporter: "It could be a kind of aristocratic class."

HASAN: "Who picks the autocrat?"

Trump Supporter: "Frankly the people, I mean, we could hold a vote on it."

HASAN: "Isn't that democracy?"

Trump Supporter: "Well, sure, you could have a vote to get to that state."

HASAN: "And then no more votes afterwards?"

Trump Supporter: "Absolutely. 100%."

HASAN: "Wow. And if that autocrat kills you and your family, you're fine with that?"

Trump Supporter: "Well, I'm not, I'm not going to be a part of the group that he kills because that's a whole thing."

HASAN: "Autocrats tend to kill everyone."

Trump Supporter: "Carl Schmitt makes this point very well in his work. It’s the friend-enemy distinction, right?"

HASAN: "Carl Schmitt, the Nazi theoretician?"

Trump Supporter: "Yeah. Absolutely. I don't care."

HASAN: "Are you a fan of the Nazis?"

Trump Supporter: "I don't, I frankly don't care being called a Nazi at all."

HASAN: "I didn't say that. I didn't say that. I said, 'Are you a fan of the Nazis?'"

Trump Supporter: "Well, they persecuted the church, and I'm not a fan of that."

HASAN: "But what about the persecution of the Jews?"

Trump Supporter: "Well, I mean, I certainly don't support anyone's human dignity being assaulted. I'm a Catholic."

HASAN: "But you don't condemn Nazi persecution of the Jews?"

Trump Supporter: "I think that there was a little bit of persecution."

HASAN: "We may have to rename this show cause you're a little bit more than a far-right Republican."

Trump Supporter: "Hey, what can I say?"

HASAN: "I think you can say, 'I'm a fascist.'"

Trump Supporter: "Yeah. I am. Absolutely."

[Trump-Supporting Audience claps]

HASAN: "I'm just checking who's clapping just to get my set of where everyone is on this because you know that millions of people are going to be watching you on YouTube and checking out who the fascists and the Nazis are."

Trump Supporter: "Yeah. Absolutely. I'm, I'm not ashamed of that one."

Tim Miller (Commenting on the exchange above): "Just in case there's anybody that's like you guys have TDS, like this is not true. These people, you know, these Jubilee assholes are libs, that they found the craziest people they could find. This was one of my favorite factoids I found digging deep on this over the weekend. The leading GOP candidate for Texas AG follows that man on Twitter."

This is fascism, if you support this bullshit you don't believe in American values:

"The White House is removing the Wall Street Journal from the pool of reporters covering the president’s weekend trip to Scotland, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told POLITICO.

The move follows the Journal’s report alleging that President Donald Trump sent a sexually suggestive message to Jeffrey Epstein in 2003.Trump has denied the existence of the letter and POLITICO has not verified it."

This is cleary a stupid comment. He leads the ratings in late night. For once in your life, do your homework Culty.

In 2025, leading the ratings among late night shows on network television is like winning first place in a "draw a stickman figure" contest. The bar is so ****ing low at this point because their audiences are a tiny fraction of what they once were.

It still matters.
