Re: Catherine, Herbert Schaible's Second Child Dies After Parents Use Prayer, No Me
Maybe it will convince the next parents that letting your children die because of your faith in some supernatural being may not be the right course of action. You are correct - a parent is responsible for making decisions on behalf of their children. But when they make criminally negligent decisions, they ought to pay the consequences. Having children does not give you the right to dispose of them as you see fit.
Property, no, but I do consider that a parent is responsible for making decisions on behalf of their children and, unfortunately, they have a right to be wrong. They did not kill their children, but their faith told them that they were doing the right thing on behalf of those children. They were so committed to their faith that it happened again. No, I do not see them as a threat to society and I wouldn't want them babysitting anyone I loved, but how would jailing two grieving parents going to help society? Should they be able to adopt, no, we leave society to be the judge of who can and cannot adopt. Are you in favor of instituting some kind of test to be a parent? Sure, people joke about it but is that really the path we want to go down?
