I care about the unskilled. However I dont believe that there is any reason that any average American worker needs to remain unskilled. Ever.

If they do so, that is their choice. They are responsible for the consequences of their choices.

Why do you think that people that choose to remain unskilled and thus less likely to make a higher wage are deserving of more of the sweat of another's brow? Why should others sacrifice after their hard work if the unskilled laborer chooses to remain at a financial level lower than the current standard of living?

What makes you think such a person can pay the bills, taxes, maint. on a home? THere is more than cost of buying. Such a job is not remotely stable and many lenders wouldnt loan to him without a great deal of savings/collateral. Your description makes the person look like a poor risk.

Owning a home is a big responsibility. OTOH if he works hard enough to save the $$ for a solid downpayment and can show he's a good risk, great.

And IMO, your example is not typical of the average American worker. Do you think it is? If not, then it's a stupid example.

Here's what should be done. Impose nationwide rent control during the emergency. Apply it to mortgages also. Cap how much can be paid by living area. Those living in humble homes should be paying at most a few hundred per month during this crisis. And honestly, just keep it that way. You have people getting wealthy who add nothing to society, who merely have a claim on wealth by owning property. Limit their profits and help those who really need it: workers, not owners.

Dood...I grew up without parents. I lived as a young teen for 2 years in a trailer literally in a swamp in Florida with a hole in my bedroom floor grateful as **** that I had a roof over my head. But I didnt whine and cry and piss myself about how unfair life is. My well runs dry tomorrow, I ****ing dig another one. If my shovel breaks, I'll wash phone trucks til I have enough to buy another shovel. None of this was easy. I worked a full time second job and often a third kicking forms before work and on the weekend while I was in the military. I worked fulltime, part time at 7-11 and fast food joints and went to school full time. Ive worked security jobs, as a janitor, Hell I spent 5 years working nights and weekends in Vegas as a bodyguard. Ive mowed yards for a living, done side home renovations jobs, I even spent summers umpiring baseball games and winters reffing basketball...thats some thankless ass work there. We bought what we could afford, improved it and moved up...rinse, lather, repeat. In addition to my full time gig which I am 4 years away from retiring (for a secind retirement) from I have a private business and properties. Its hard work. 4 more years...and I'll relax and cut it back to one. But because of our hard work our kids were started off two steps higher on the ladder. My grandkids will be 5 or 6 steps higher. And along the way, we have had a hell of a ride.

But hey...you go ahead and bitch and moan and piss yourself about how unfair life is. Hell..some day you MIGHT even be able to convince yourself its someone elses fault.

Banks and other finance companies are getting bailed out, why not American workers? Unemployment is going to 30%, yet we're not going to give workers relief from their bills? Just a quick few thousand that will go straight to landlords and banks? Give me a break.
