The vast majority of mothers with children are journeying over tough, dangerous, terrain, (takes about a month )fleeing persecution from their own countries which are in turmoil, Honduras, etc, ( central america ) and are seeking asylum, which is legal. Why? Because the mothers are trying to save their children. Trump and Sessions are denying them due process and calling them criminals and ripping the kids away from mothers.

Probably not. We have a population of 11 million illegal immigrants. Even if border crossings were 0, it would take decades to deport what is currently here. If you want to see that number drop significantly, then the penalties would need to shift to Americans. Think about mandatory 10 year sentences for people who knowingly hire illegals. That would bring about real change. However that is how you know Trump does not really care about illegal immigration. He would never do anything like that.

I doubt most of those 11 million will be deported except for criminals. They will be absorbed. I'm all for punishing companies because the demand for cheap labor also fuels the illegal immigrant problem as well as undercuts American workers in many areas.

Not quite. A wall also takes maintenance and security. That costs a lot, too.



First of all, I'm not a fan of the word "illegal" as a noun. People who have overstated their visas are in violation of civil law, not criminal law.

Secondly, while this has always been an issue to some extent, the video noted that the tightening of the US-Mexico border made this a lot worse.



Why? They're here illegally because the law says they are. Nothing more. If that's the legal argument then that's the end of that story, but the effectiveness, the morality, and especially the methods of enforcement of the existing laws are in question.



The number of people who arrive here illegally from Latin America is small. Besides, even the Bush administration used to be much more open to granting that small number asylum.



Ugh, "illegals" again...Why do we want to compare the United States of America to a prison? Is that the model we really want to copy? I thought we were supposed to be all about freedom and liberty. I thought we had a statue in the New York Harbor that welcomed immigrants. Where did we lose our way?

As for "illegals". yes I should say illegal aliens. No matter how you slice it, they are violating the law whether coming over the border or overstaying visas and disappearing into the population. So, "illegal alien" is an accurate legal description. I disagree that tightening the border makes overstays worse. Most of the people coming in can barely afford a can of beans much less plane tickets for a family.

On the circular flow issue, like I said, the wall limits our problem to the people here rather than BOTH those here and those wanting to come here across a porous border. lastly, I wasn't comparing the US to a prison as you know. I was giving an illustration of how walls work in the real world. If they didn't, nobody would build them. Yes, we are welcoming to immigrants but we also have laws. When we ignore those laws we become a worse place for both our citizens and those trying to come in.

2 1/2 years ago a picture went around the world: showing a little Syrian toddler on a beach, drowned at sea.
MSM blamed everybody who did not agree with embracing "refugees" from the middle east.
Although I knew it was nothing but propaganda, the picture was heart breaking and I could not hold back my tears.
The MSM tried their hardest to soften me; however, not long after that picture went around the globe, some media reported the true story behind the that picture:

The Syrian refugee family was save in a refugee camp in Turkey. However, the father had received cash from his sister in Canada to pay for an "illegal boat passage" trying to reach a Western European country from where he would try to get to Canada. The people smugglers he paid overloaded the boat - his wife and his 2 sons drowned and that POS of a father was rescued.

The father caused the death of his whole family.


The image in the Daily News reminds me of that story: a picture but not the true story behind it.

No. It is a temporary inconvenience, albeit a stressful one, that could be avoided by not coming here and trying to barge your way in. This can all be remedied by either immigrants voluntarily ceasing to attempt to enter illegally or by the US turning away everyone right at the border who hasn't followed proper procedure. This cannot continue to be a free for all. The problem has been a long time coming and had been aided and abetted by past administrations. Trump is the first person to actually get serious about solving the problem. The bigger problem is all the people and interests who don't want it solved.

As has been pointed out, simply being in the US without citizenship or proper documentation is only a civil offense. But improper entry into the US can be a criminal offense, ex., presenting false documents to a border guard.
