Exactly, and the idea of breaking California into two states has been around for as long as I can remember. If the dividing line put LA and SF into one state, and the area north of the Tehapis and east of the Coast range into another, we'd have one more red state, so the Senate would gain two Republicans.
Oh, and the wacky idea of spending a hundred billion or so on a high speed rail system would no doubt go away finally.
The high speed rail would just loop around SF and LA pointlessly. You ignore that, like all government boondoggles, the price of the project IS the purpose for the project.
