Actually, it wasn't. Far more people would've been killed if he carefully aimed and fired each shot, whether with an AR15 or any other rifle. Probably the most lethal weapon he could've used is a good solid bolt action rifle and a good scope.

Well sure it was. The plan was to shoot as many as possible as fast as possible with store bought weaponry. The AR15, being a combat weapon was perfect and the results show it. Ya'see, even in combat the only thing necessary id to bring as many people down as possible in as short a time as possible. That's why they invented the machine gun. Just think if there's been another shooter with him; 1000 people down!!

If the semi-automatic AR-15 is a combat weapon, how come the US military doesn't have any and never had it? And no, the purpose of the service rifle has never been to bring down as many people as possible in a short of a time as possible.

Given the immense numbers of rounds fired to produce even one casualty, the intent is to increase the number of rounds a soldier can carry to achieve that 50,000:1 bullet to casualty ratio. The service rifle is not a machine gun.

What's a banana clip? Assuming you meant the standard 30 round magazine, is their some number between 10 and 30 where the purpose crosses over from normal civilian use to warfare only? The reason I ask is that last Sunday there were 50 of us usuing magazines anywhere from 7 to 40 rounds in competition at a local range, and no one seemed to be in warfare.

The fully automatic version was designed to meet Army specs, but the semiauto version does not. What is unique about the AR-15, anyway? John Browning invented the semiautomatic Reminton Model 8 in 1905 for hunters, so it isn't the semi-automatic part. The FMJ buillet has been in use in the US since 1906, so it isn't the FMJ bullet part. The .224 caliber bullet has been in use since the mids 30s in cartridges like the .220 Swift and .22-250, two cartridges that exceed the muzzle velocity of the M193 cartidge by about 500 fps, so it wasn't the caliber or velocity that made it unique.

It's just another semiautomatic, magazine fed, intermediate caliber rifle that's materially no different than the Remington Model 8 from 1905 or the M1 Carbine from 1942.

If the AR-15 was designed for combat, and is a "weapon of war", it's the worst ever designed as the military doesn't use it and it's not used in war. Your carbine and handgun were used in war, yet you cling to them with weapons grade levels of hypocrisy.

What's noteworthy is that even if the AR15 is "designed as a combat weapon", there are other weapons that exclusively originated for military use and were in fact used as combat weapons. But you seem to have no problem with those.

Can you credibly explain this disconnect?
