Blowback at Nike over Colin Kaepernick deal

I don’t give a flying **** about Canada or what they did in Vietnam

The question was asked on why someone would honor the flag...I answered it

You may not agree...your choice....

To many of us, it is not just a piece of cloth as some have suggested

And again...maybe spend a day in Arlington National and see what those families think of that piece of cloth

Talk to a few guys who have bled for that piece of cloth....maybe, just maybe you might see why it is so important to some of us

But then again....maybe not with you guys

Dude I did my time too. Dont preach what patriotism is. I never served for any piece of cloth

I might have mentioned it about five hundred times, falls on deaf ears.

So one vet’s opinion is supposed to be the end all of all opinions?

You do realize hundreds if not thousands of vets have spoken out against this, right?

You're the one pushing the right wing political correctness.

C'mon. Play the game. We're discussing here. You're saying the flag represents the nation you serve and you'd never serve under another flag. Right? Did I get that right? So I'm asking you if someone from a foreign country serves the Stars and Stripes, goes to war under your flag, are they unpatriotic in your opinion?
Think about it and repy with your thoughts. And don't try to deflect to flags at Arlington. It's a simple question.
Is a Canadian who served the US armed forces in Vietnam unpatriotic and maybe traitorous?

I can’t imagine going to war, or going into a combat zone for any other country but mine...period

The nationalist is too emotional to answer this rationally as typical nationalists are wont to do.

You do realize hundreds if not thousands of vets have spoken out against this, right?

And hundreds if not thousands more remember what they actually fought for, which is the right to kneel.

The National Anthem wasn't even played at football games until we were in WW2, and it was done to drum up a little patriotism for the troops fighting overseas. The football players weren't even on the field for the anthem to be played until like 2010 or something. They were in the locker rooms, getting ready for the game.

So stop with all this uber-patriotic nonsense about how your "fighting for the flag" is any better than anybody else's "fighting for the flag."

Signed,
The Wife of a 100% disabled vet who didn't fight for the flag - he fought for his country, and he fought to defend and uphold the Constitution (which gives Kaepernick et al, the right to kneel)

Okay, thanks.
My guess is those who do, who go to war for foreign nations, are either driven by a sense of adventure or just using skills they learned in their own military. Apparently, given the long history of mercenary soldiers, it's not just patriotism that brings men to war.
From your position, would you think less of an American who enlisted in the armed forces of another country, or hired himself out as a mercenary? Or, if you had to defend your country, what wold you think of serving beside someone who wasn't American but enlisted in the American military?

Mercenaries are soldiers of fortune...go to war for money...

I think that is extremely different than being called up by your country to fight for your country

One is done for profit, one for country

Apples/oranges

burning your stuff is stupid... getting mad at Nike is stupid...

the thing that I tire of over this issue is those that back the protests keep lying that it is not about protesting the flag, the anthem or the United States.

Ray says it well here at about 3:30

You ever bleed for it?

Have a family member bleed for it?

Maybe that would change your perspective....maybe not

For some people that piece of cloth as you put it, has a lot of meaning and importance

To you, maybe it means nothing

What would be noble is bleeding for the freedom of everyone to express themselves as they see fit, not to force or shame others to perform rituals.

what would be ideal is for those on the other side to understand that not everyone feels the same way

and that there is more than one way for their protest to be done....

Look away for three minutes. Its not that big of a deal

Maybe the other side needs to realize not everything is about them.
