Blowback at Nike over Colin Kaepernick deal

Yeah, Kaepernick would actually rather sit on his ass.

So all his work to get back in the NFL is a lie eh?

Stick with the facts and park your emotions about it all.

Why are some people so intent on everyone worshipping a piece of cloth? Ridiculous.

You ever bleed for it?

Have a family member bleed for it?

Maybe that would change your perspective....maybe not

For some people that piece of cloth as you put it, has a lot of meaning and importance

To you, maybe it means nothing

Symbolic worship is how people get sucked into nationalism.

I served. And I would've served my country no matter what was being flown up a flag pole.

Goody for you....

You are an exception

I dare you to go to Arlington on any day of the week and ask 100 people what that piece of cloth means to them, or their family

Or ask the guys who volunteer to be in the ceremonial guard protecting the tomb of the unknown

Or the majority of those who have served....in our all volunteer force for the last 40 years or so

Good to know you would have served under just any old flag....maybe the German nationalist party from the 30’s would serve you well...since for you it doesn’t matter at all

For me, old glory is the only flag I will serve or salute

But I guess, to each their own

I fought for your right to burn and spit on my flag....

I'm not an exception. I'm just not a nationalist. It's that simple. I love my country more than I love the symbology of my country. Nationalists tend to have it the other way around. Which makes them so much easier to dupe into doing stupid **** by simply yanking their emotions around due to their willingness to marry to symbology.

See, that kind of patriotism is impossible for me and many others to understand.
Thousands of Canadians served with the US military in Vietnam. Would you say they were seriously lacking in patriotism, maybe traitorous?

They should be patriotic to their flag, and their country

Pretty sure their battalions carried a maple leaf flag, not old glory over there

What is so hard to understand about that?

Everyone stands for the anthem in North Korea. If they want to live

No, there were no Canadian forces in that war. I'm talking about guys who enlisted in American forces. The brother of a friend I had in school served with the Marines in Vietnam, and there were tens of thousands more. This report says 30,000 Canadians enlisted in the American military during that war.

Not sure how many draft dodgers came to Canada, but maybe they were all repaced by Canadians.
Point is, are Canadians who fight with American armed forces under the American flag lacking patriotism, maybe traitorous?

So what is it to you? What's your investment in a piece of patterned cloth?

Yes, fighting for that piece of cloth meant that they fought for people's rights to kneel.

To many, that has a lot of meaning and importance.

I might have mentioned it about five hundred times, falls on deaf ears.

Same here. I hate hearing people whine about how they served, then complain about Kaepernick kneeling. Did they forget the Oath of Enlistment?

Kinda gotta revisit this post... since your response proves my point. I love my country. I served my country. Yet here you are telling me I'd serve under any old flag or serve NAZI Germany. That's a pretty cheap shot.

Especially when I said I would serve MY country, the United States of America, no matter what flag the United States would fly. That's not a willingness to serve any country regardless of what flag they fly. But alas you let your emotions get the best of you and letting your nationalistic tendencies get the best of you.

Your worship of symbology can lead you wrong. The stupidity of your comment can be exposed by this simply hypothetical... supposed "Ol Glory" is retired and for whatever reason the United States comes up with a new flag... the premise of what you just said is that you give up on your country because you are following the flag wherever it is put. The ignorant in this topic are the ones who can't tell the difference between love of their country and love of the flag. Meh... nationalistic dupes will be nationalistic dupes I suppose... as they always are.

I fought for your right to burn and spit on my flag....

As did I for you. So save your trump card here and put it back in your overly emotional, nationalistic wallet for later use on someone else.

I don’t give a flying **** about Canada or what they did in Vietnam

The question was asked on why someone would honor the flag...I answered it

You may not agree...your choice....

To many of us, it is not just a piece of cloth as some have suggested

And again...maybe spend a day in Arlington National and see what those families think of that piece of cloth

Talk to a few guys who have bled for that piece of cloth....maybe, just maybe you might see why it is so important to some of us

But then again....maybe not with you guys
