Bill Nye the Lying Guy

That's the point.

The point is that you have a scale of what the goal of a researcher is and you put in a non-research person/scientific communicator on it in a nonsensical manner?

Thnking about it, its actually CURRY who should be in that quadrant, since her publications now consist of publications that nitpick at the fundamental basic research (low quest for fundamental understanding) and their practical application is fairly minimal, since they dont advance science, but trump the 'uncertainty' behind climatology (low utility).

We shall henceforth call it the 'Curry Quadrant'.

Tsk tsk. From Curry's post:

Besides being hysterically funny, the more I thought about it, I realized how profound this is.
Apart from the twitter aspect, here are other attributes of this quadrant:

  • Second order belief – allegiance to consensus. Individual has not done primary research on the relevant topic or has not conducted an independent assessment of the evidence and research.
  • Shutting down scientific debate; science as dogma
  • Alarmism as a tactic to influence the public debate
  • Political activism and advocacy for particular policy solutions
  • Scientism: a demand that science dictate public policy
  • Advocacy research
Some recent articles on Bill Nye’s pernicious influence on the scientific debate:

And then there is Neil DeGrasse Tyson (sorry Neil, you don’t get a Quadrant named after you)

The scariest thing about this quadrant is that this is the quadrant of science that is driving the media and public debate.
Within the field of climate research itself, the quickest litmus test for the Nye Quadrant is twitter addiction (~100 tweets per day). . . .

Abjectly stupid.

No research is being performed. It is strictly communication of complex scientific concepts to laymen. The same thing Curry is trying to do, except she's not real good at it.

“I gave up on Judith Curry a while ago. I don’t know what she thinks she’s doing, but its not helping the cause,” - Mike Mann

They may not understand anything about the science but the drones do as their told by the side they chose. I guess that's something.

Factually inaccurate.

Bill Nye the Stupid Guy. (Not to mention unconstitutional.)

[h=1]Whoa! Scientific American excoriates Bill Nye[/h]This was unexpected. Alarmists are starting to eat their own over Trump. From “Scientific American”, a once great magazine. The way I read that, they are saying that even the slightest questioning of the faith, is an act of heresy.
