Yes, a lot of them are creepy or weird or disgusting. I hate most of them. But there are a small number of ASMR geniuses that I have found. Some of them get millions of views. So this isn't just me. And a lot of the comments are written by men.

Yeah it's strange what gets the most views on YouTube. There's this genre of video but for some reason people call mukbang which just means eating from what I can gather. And it's some young man or young woman sitting in front of the camera stuffing their gob sometimes for an hour and those videos have millions of views.

All I know is ASMR videos don't work for me because it is not auditory stimulus that triggers it, it's tactile and often related to temperature for me.

I think maybe ASMR goes back to primates grooming each other, looking for bugs. I like to watch videos of that.

I didn't find it unpleasant, just peculiar. Sometimes even triggering an involuntary shiver. I also experience it when I'm initiating fight or flight responses though it seems a little different in that instance. It's a very similar response.

Ever since I was a little boy I'd pick up roly-polies and watch them walk along my fingers. I had to be carful with caterpillars because some in the area I grew up in sting. But grasshoppers spiders scorpions and beetles all fascinate me. Like toads and snakes too. I managed to get someone afraid of bugs to like and even appreciate cicadas.

I understand that. They simply trigger the ASMR response in me but only when I'm not expecting it.

When I first read about ASMR, I knew exactly what was being described.

It's hard to say whether it's more pleasurable than an orgasm. In my case I'd say the peak intensity of the pleasure of the latter is greater, but ASMR can last for well over a minute. It's also a very different type of pleasure.

I sometimes experience ASMR while taking phone surveys. No idea why.

From what I read about it, it may cause euphoria. I don't feel euphoria, but it isn't an unpleasant experience even when it's triggered by fear.

Some people confuse it with the tingling one feels when a limb "wakes up" after going to sleep, or bashing one's funny bone, or gets goosebumps in the cold.

Now I don't know; medically, these things may be considered ASMR. But for me they don't remotely resemble ASMR. Not all tingles, shivers, and willies are made the same.
