Retired US Army Lt Col Robert Bateman says we should look for a specific action as a serious warning

So what am I looking for as a siren?

James Mattis.

If Secretary of Defense Mattis resigns, anytime soon (say in the next few weeks), all bets are off. Why does this worry me? Because Mattis would resign, as I think would national security adviser H.R. McMaster, should an order be issued to commit overt military action. If you see that happen, maybe we should all worry. Until then, relax but monitor.

the problem is there are so many reasons those 2 could resign.

Rogue Valley posted this earlier. Makes for interesting reading. Not sure if you saw this?

Two worthwhile reads concerning North Korea by US defense professionals.

America Is Not Ready for a War in North Korea

How to Deal With North Korea

Edit: Another worthwhile NK read - How Trump Can Contain North Korea Without ‘Fire and Fury’

I can't understand the motivation for either of those Generals to come on board this Administration.

To men like them it isn't about who the President is. It isn't about preserving their reputation. It is about serving your country. And if they do believe Trump is a loose cannon then they would view it as even more vital they stay in their positions to be a rational voice in Trump's ear. We need to applaud their decision to accept the jobs because if they leave we don't know what kind of person could take the jobs.

The replacement for Gen. Flynn turned the job down. Gen. Kelly, it seems was offered the job a month or more before he accepted.
I realistically cannot see Kelly or McMaster staying for their term. I guess duty is as good a reason as any..............seems like cleaning up after the circus parade has passed with starker consequences.

I, for one, feel better knowing that there are grownups in the room.
