I actually erased former and then I read the article about how he resigned right before he was charged. So it sounds like he was a deputy and then resigned because he knew that he had been busted.

What I'm getting at is bail / bond to prevent him running. Also - I'm surprised then at a lack of investigation in between arrest and release.

Well the investigation has to happen before the arrest. Need that for probable cause.

There may have been a bond. The article doesn't say.
