Good grief, I watched the teams locking arms today during the National Anthem as some sort of show of "solidarity". What a bunch of giant babies. There's people having to rebuild entire lives in due to hurricanes and earthquakes and they're not being paid hundreds of thousands dollars for playing a game 4 months out of the year. Trump makes a few comments (that I actually wish he hadn't) and ohhh, life is so hard and so bad for us in the US. I'm watching NFL Gameday and they're trying to be all lighthearted "normal" as if there hasn't been this idiocy or we should all just be fine with it and this stupidity is going to be talked about all day. I've loved football for so long but this really turning turning me off.

Adding a quick poll.

Yes, I am so sick of this controversy. If some NFL players want to kneel when the National Anthem is played, or lock arms, or what-the-****-ever, I do not care. More power to them.

People make such a big deal out of nothing.

I don't watch football, but these are my thoughts.

Personally, I am not happy with the political climate either. I have people saying things to me personally and I have heard the president say many offensive things. I can't really do anything about it either. It's obvious people have opinions and feelings that make others upset, and in this political climate, people are saying what they think. One group of people is not entitled to express themselves and be Un PC, expecting everybody else to play by the old rules. I am kind of happy minorities are giving it right back. I have learned to live with it, so can other people. It's going to be ok.

Like a few comments from Trump?

Sick of the NFL controversy and NFL period. Bunch of overpaid kids with huge egos.

Like a few comments from Trump?

Sure. Childishness on both sides of this debacle.

But Trump should not have said what he said, because it causes uproars like this to happen. He should have just kept his mouth shut, rather than going after the players that protested. The only thing he did was add a few more logs to the fire.

Oh, I have no doubt that many on the left are happy about this because this will damage the NFL. Some lefties really, really hate the sport. They think it's too dangerous and, in a way, that the players are victims. I mean, I don't see this with any other professional sport. Why is that? These folks have no power though, to shake NFL support from the fans. They tried guilting us and we just told them if you don't like it, don't watch. For something as big as the NFL to ultimately fail, it has to come from within and these players are playing right into it. You and others like you may not care if this hurts the NFL, but the players really should.

Yeah tired of this controversy, but I wish the players would take their protestations off of the field of play.

Their political activism isn't what NFL games are all about. There are plenty of other venues where it would be more appropriate.

Their disrespect of the flag and the anthem is setting the example, a bad one at that, all the way down to political activist coaches in little league having their 8 year old kids kneeling. What example is this to set for the kids? Hate your country?

Kudos to Jerry Jones for taking a stand and his stand on this issue.

Apparently you are not sick of the topic...

I agree with that, but these players are doing it all wrong. We worship these players. I mean, maybe we shouldn't but they're practically super human. If they actually showed solidarity and support for the US rather than against Trump, we'd give them pretty much anything they want (and I don't even know what that they want, to be honest). Make the NFL about anti American sentiment and they will lose those supporters who are now willing to pay hundreds of dollars for a ticket.

But Trump should not have said what he said,

How else is he going to divert attention away from yet another apparent loss in the senate and more bad news on the Mueller front?

I did not know that the sport of Football/NFL was a left-right issue and lefties hate the sport. Is it because lefties are not manly and true red-blooded americans?

Yeah, same with NASCAR and MMA. Dude, I did not say "lefties" in general, did I?

I don't really consider it "anti-American" sentiment. And people already give them practically everything they want. This controversy won't change a thing. Maybe in the short-term this will affect the NFL, as they will probably be dealing with this controversy for a while, but in the long-run the NFL will be just fine.

What I tend to get annoyed with is when the announcer says "Please stand to honor the men and women who fought for this country" And people kneel. **** them. I don't get how disrespecting the men and women who served is furthering your cause. Do something else to protest. What are you really doing by kneeling? Wow...that takes a lot of effort.

That's because there isn't one. Football isn't a partisan thing; it's an American thing.

Who would be more likely to be ok with players grabbing their crotches during the national anthem?

Time to bring Sarah Palin back from obscurity to inform us whether we are or are not Real Americans?

Seriously, I don't know how one sees this anthem thing and winds up thinking it's a sinister left-wing plot to kill the beloved NFL.

Have any of them indicated any respect for the country?

If that's true it will only be because viewership finally impacts their bottom line and they reverse course. Why is it only the NFL that is dealing with this controversy? Why not other professional sports.

Yes, I also think that this whole thing is going to ultimately break football. It will never go back to how it was and will continue to fade, which is unfortunate because I really enjoyed watching it. I'm not going to be watching it anymore. I watch football for football, not for politics. If they want to do this stuff then they can do it off the field or quit and run for office.

Yeah, same with NASCAR and MMA. Dude, I did not say "lefties" in general, did I?

No you said many, implying it was a pretty common feeling among the left that apparently many on the right would never feel this way about the sport? Why did you even bring politics into this discussion? Just to get a dig in at the left?

Protesting doesn't necessarily mean they don't have respect for the country. Plenty of people protest for change, in various different ways, and still have respect for the nation. Plenty of examples to choose from. Now, I don't know any of these football players personally, but I doubt they have no respect for the country.

If that's true it will only be because viewership finally impacts their bottom line and they reverse course. Why is it only the NFL that is dealing with this controversy? Why not other professional sports.

I'm guessing because this whole 'kneeling' controversy started in the NFL.

Adding a quick poll.

Athletes who earned their way in college through scholarships for their physical abilities play college football to show their talents and then get drafted into the NFL some making more in one year than many will make in a lifetime.

A lot of folks share your sentiment who have been long time fans of the NFL and if social media is any measurement of disgust, there's a lot of folks turning off their TV's and I suspect there will be a lot of empty seats at stadiums in the near future.

Personally what happened in London this morning with the Jaguars and the Ravens was as low as it gets. The players all stood for the playing of God Save the Queen and then several took a knee when our national anthem was played.

And I don't know how someone looks at the Anthem as something sinister in itself.

Who ever said that? You seem to be inferring and projecting a lot of thoughts/ideas onto "many on the left".

Maybe if you had included that idea in your OP with the poll... It seemed rather out of the blue to me.
