Approved permit!

Walther P22 and Ruger SR22 are both good they are reliable and accurate. The Walther tends to be a little picky on ammo but it found brand it likes and no worries. They run mid 300's

The Heritage revolvers are good and many come with a 22Mag cylinder. 150 to 200

STAY AWAY from the Walther PPK in 22. It has a nasty slide bite even for a PPK and jams a lot in my experience.


My #1 pick for first time 22 gun owner is the
Tarus PT22 It has a tip up barrel If you have or ever get stiff joints pulling back the slide can be troublesome. The barrel design eliminates that problem. It has the standard button safety, but also comes with an "Allen Key" safety allowing you to lock out the gun in a non firing state. Adds another layer of protection. They are relatively inexpensive New ones range from 200-250 depending on grips and finish. IMO good middle of road statter and usually available on the normal online retailers.

I agree, the idea of "working your way up" is rather pointless. Buy a gun and caliber you think fits your needs and head to the range and practice with it.

If you want a good CC pistol, I like the M&P Shield. You can buy one with a safety, I know some people hate safeties but I feel better having one if I intend to have a loaded weapon. I would also recommend at 9mm, I prefer .40 though.

If you want a fun pistol for the range, check out the Rock Island Armory 1911a2. It can fire both 9mm and a special round .22TCM. The .22TCM round is nicknamed "fire breathing dragon" and seems like a pretty cool round. It is my next pistol purchase.

Congrats!!

I started my daughter on a 22 revolver just to get her proficient with safety and operation it....she had the choice of a semi automatic or revolver for her personal carry, and she opted for a revolver....its a personal choice on what you are most comfortable and proficient with.

She has a "Taurus Judge" revolver in .45/.410.....it fits in the pistol pocket in her purse nicely.

It depends on what you want out of it. If youre buying a .22 as a bridge gun to move onto something with a larger caliber in the future then its an investment loss because you'll be selling it anyway. Better to start training with the gun you really want. There's no need for baby steps.

If I were you I'd go to a range where you can rent guns and try them out. Pick one that you like the most and train with that.

My sister and her husband lives in Scotia and they love it. Vermont is closer and all you need to do is be over 15 and no felonies. I like the four seasons and were big skiers, but snow removal is not one of my favorite things to do...

My daughter went out with "the boys" to the local shooting spot. They were naturally ribbing her for "shooting like a girl" until they set up targets. They didn't know she was already well acquainted with my .22 Ithaca Model 72 Saddlegun (Erma Works).

They set up cans and such and she set up shotgun shells and coins.

3 consecutive shots, 30 feet... The laughing stopped cold.

You may want to consider your first weapon by what you intend to use next. The 22's are in many cases, almost the same gun as the 38 or 45 version and will have a very similar feel.

Thing is, I didn't teach her. She is pretty much self taught. Genetic I like to think. The truth is she is special in many ways.

About eight years old she wanted throwing knives for her birthday. (And we gave them) :) She also juggles fire. Poi, fire fans, flaming hula hoops, etc.

All the more reason to be proud.

I started my daughter on a .22 Savage rifle, and a .22 Ruger revolver....she had the opportunity to use many of my semi automatics, but settled on a Taurus revolver for personal carry.
 
Do you mean a carry permit? If so, what do you plan to do with it? Hope a bad guy shows up?

Basic ownership permit? I have to admit I have no idea wtf that is. You have to get some sort of permit in NY to even own a firearm?

NYC requires, IIRC some sort of license (there are different levels). Hopefully a few more Trump appointees to the courts will end that idiocy
