AOC to DHS chief: Border agents shared 'images of my violent rape'...

What's the Norwegian system?

Not ours. Its merit based when it comes to immigration, but it's similar with regard to claims of asylum.

Funny, isn't merit based immigration what Trump talks about all the time? Seems it's only bad if Trump wants it.

That's not my concern with trump and immigration. My concern with trump and immigration is the dehumanizing rhetoric; the obscene ignorance peddled by right wing pundits about asylum; and the wall.

We know the wall isnt a solution. It wont silver anything.

Brain-drain of the countries sending immigrants is counter productive. Ultimately, development ends the immigration issues. We slow development when we remove human capital.

yes pending investigation until that investigation is over and we have actual facts we don't know anything.

We have read some of the comments and seen a pic or two. Actual facts. We know something. Doesn't mean anyone is guilty yet. After all, we are not like Trump.

How does firing then take away their right to free speech? No one has a right to a government job, surely. Unless...do you think that private sector employees shouldn’t be fired for expressing their views?

Pickering vs Board established that public employees are protected by the First Amendment.

I would support legislation to protect employees generally from being discriminated against for constitutionally protected off-duty speech not *directly* related to their employment. But public employees are already (supposed to be) protected against such retaliation.

Well if you aren’t worried about how you gonna pay for it buy your own **** and stop expecting others to pay your way!

You need to read the ****in conversation again because I am not going to sit here and explain to you why your response is bizarre and irrelevant.

Seemed like it to me. Why pick 12 years anyway? Why not 10 or 15 or 18? She seems pretty certain about 12.

She was referencing a UN body stating we have 12 years to make substantial effort to limit the damage, or that damage will be unavoidable.

Some climate scientists refute this claim, stating that we've already passed the deadline.

It helps to know what someone is talking about if you plan to criticize it.

The wall is part of the solution, not the entire solution. Obviously, whatever has been done up to this point, is a failure. You don't get 12-20 million illegal aliens, or more, if your system works.

Is part of that solution making legal immigration more reasonable, practical, and available?

Easy for you to post a cartoon mocking this. You didn't lose a loved one to an illegal.
Google "Angel Families". Then that cartoon won't seem so funny.

The climate change movement isn't really an environmental one. It's a wealth redistribution scheme designed to punish the industrially successful countries. I'm still waiting to see how the environment police are going to stop the world's largest atmospheric polluters, China and India.

That's an absurd statement. The only conclusion one could reach by reading it is that having no barriers at all is just as effective as a wall. Walls work and so will one on the border, properly manned. Arguing otherwise is simply nonsense.

Is part of that solution making legal immigration more reasonable, practical, and available?

It could probably be streamlined. What will make it better is not having to worry about catching illegal aliens 24/7. If we get a handle on that, it will be better for both our own citizens and would-be immigrants.

That assumes they care. If it hasn't affected them personally, they don't.

You could also say hiring 20,000 pom-pom waving cheerleaders to stand along the border is part of the solution, not the entire solution.

What I have yet to see is a reputable study that states spending billions on a wall is a cost effective strategy for limiting illegal immigration and/or drug smuggling.

Can you provide a link to such a study, or should be just say the wall is equivalent to cheerleaders?

EDIT: Remember when Trump thought putting solar panels on the wall was a good idea? ROFL! You have to admit, that was a moronic idea, particularly for a supposed "businessman". What an idiot!

The cost of the wall will be one time. The cost of a continued influx of large numbers of illegal aliens will go for perpetuity. Where do illegals go to cross? Where they have the least resistance (ie. no or inadequate barriers)

Contrived useless hot air.

Yes, we can agree on the state of your positions. A bit of education can correct this state however. We have hope for you and those others indoctrinated by the democrat party of slavery.

Democrat party of slavery? Bold claims you make. Have any evidence from the last 50 years that the democrats are the "party of slavery?"

Seems to me, only one party wants to continue prohibition, wants to restrict marriages, wants to continue throwing americans off of healthcare, I could go on. It ain't the democratic party. The republican party wants most of us to be slaves to the wealthy.

The Racist History of the Democratic Party

"every piece of racist legislation that was ever passed and every racist terrorist attack that was ever inflicted on African Americans, was initiated by the members of the Democratic Party. From the formation of the Democratic Party in 1792 to the Civil Rights movement of 1960's, Congressional records show the Democrat Party passed no specific laws to help Blacks, every law that they introduced into Congress was designed to hurt blacks in 1894 Repeal Act. The chronicles of history shows that during the past 160 years the Democratic Party legislated Jim Crows laws, Black Codes and a multitude of other laws at the state and federal level to deny African Americans their rights as citizens.

History reveals that the Republican Party was formed in 1854 to abolish slavery and challenge other racist legislative acts initiated by the Democratic Party.

Some called it the Civil War, others called it the War Between the States, but to the African Americans at that time, it was the War Between the Democrats and the Republicans over slavery. The Democrats gave their lives to expand it, Republican gave their lives to ban it.

During the Senate debates on the Ku Klux Klan Act of 1871, it was revealed that members of the Democratic Party formed many terrorist organizations like the Ku Klux Klan to murder and intimidate African Americans voters. The Ku Klux Klan Act was a bill introduced by a Republican Congress to stop Klan Activities. Senate debates revealed that the Klan was the terrorist arm of the Democratic Party.

History reveals that Democrats lynched, burned, mutilated and murdered thousands of blacks and completely destroyed entire towns and communities occupied by middle class Blacks, including Rosewood, Florida, the Greenwood District in Tulsa Oklahoma, and Wilmington, North Carolina to name a few.

After the Civil War, Democrats murdered several hundred black elected officials (in the South) to regain control of the southern government. All of the elected officials up to 1935 were Republicans. As of 2004, the Democrat Party (the oldest political party in America) has never elected a black man to the United States Senate, the Republicans have elected three.

History reveals that it was Thaddeus Stevens, a Radical Republican that introduced legislation to give African Americans the so-called 40 acres and a mule and Democrats overwhelmingly voted against the bill. Today many white Democrats are opposed to paying African Americans trillions of dollars in Reparation Pay, money that should be paid by the Democratic Party.

History reveals that it was Abolitionists and Radical Republicans such as Henry L. Morehouse and General Oliver Howard that started many of the traditional Black colleges, while Democrats fought to keep them closed. Many of our traditional Black colleges are named after white Republicans.

Congressional records show it was Democrats that strongly opposed the passage of the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments. These three Amendments were introduced by Republicans to abolish slavery, give citizenship to all African Americans born in the United States and, give Blacks the right to vote.

Congressional records show that Democrats were opposed to passing the following laws that were introduced by Republicans to achieve civil rights for African Americans:

Civil Rights Act 1866
Reconstruction Act of 1867
Freedman Bureau Extension Act of 1866
Enforcement Act of 1870
Force Act of 1871
Ku Klux Klan Act of 1871
Civil Rights Act of 1875
Civil Rights Act of 1957
Civil Rights Act of 1960
And during the 60's many Democrats fought hard to defeat the
1964 Civil Rights Act
1965 Voting Rights Acts
1972 Equal Employment Opportunity Act "

It is sad so many are unaware of basic history. It is not their fault. Republicans have much to answer for in abandoning the fundamental institutions of education, media, and Hollywood to those progressive, liberal, democrats who have willfully abused their responsibilities. It is fascinating that you must abandon the whole of history to try to make a point.

In the past few years democrat progressives are outraged at the prospect of the minority unemployment rate plunging, Wages on the rise for the lowest incomes, The fundamental idea that people actually knock on the door to come into the house rather than dying crossing a river, tunneling into your home, or breaking in the windows. 5 million off food stamps?

Outrageous....We are escaping the democrat deal with the devil step by step.

I asked for something within 50 years, only one of those examples falls within that timeframe, and that's dubious at best.

One party has addressed its racism issue; the democratic party. The republicans have completely embraced racists and have leapt to the defense of this president making racist statements.

Pakman perfectly demolishes the claim that the right isn't racist, and exposes how the right has stigmatized this issue and misconstrued it. Is there racism on the left? Sure. There is in every facet of every political lean.

Watch the video. The right is even worse; it explicitly wages a war to try and claim they aren't racist and it's the left that's racist.

One party has addressed its racism issue; the democratic party..

Meh. Democrats have evolved from theft of labor to theft of vote.

At their core both parties are the same today as 200 years ago. Methodology and volume has changed.

"For two centuries they had oppressed and stolen from blacks and other minorities; now they had an idea for how to do it to the country as a whole. The new Democratic scam was progressivism, not the old progressivism of forced sterilization and support for fascism, but a new progressivism that turned blacks and other minorities into pawns in a grand larceny scheme.
The scheme works like this. Progressives supply the basic needs of poor blacks, creating for them a new plantation called the inner city. There blacks are provided with food, subsidized housing, medical care, and so on. In this regard, the new plantation functions pretty much like the old one, with a few modifications. Under slavery, this was rural paternalism; now it is urban paternalism. The slave master is replaced by the government; i.e. the Big House of slavery is now replaced by the White House.
In both cases, it’s a meager living. But there is an important difference. Under slavery, blacks had to work; today’s blacks don’t have to work to inhabit the progressive plantation. In fact, they must not work, because if they become self-reliant, then the progressives have no future use for them. Consequently, many young blacks have productivity, creativity, even human dignity sapped out of them. This is the core of today’s progressive racism.
Progressive racism is dedicated to uplifting poor blacks to a certain point and then keeping them there. The proof is that poor blacks today are about as poorly off as they were a half-century ago, when the progressive schemes of black uplift went into place. Every other ethnic group in America has dramatically improved its life except this one. Blacks have delivered for progressives, but they haven’t progressed very much themselves. This, I suggest, is by design.
Several years ago the black pastor and activist Eugene Rivers made the startling statement that today’s young black males in the inner city are “ill-equipped to secure gainful employment even as productive slaves.” Rivers’s point was that at least slaves had skills like masonry, carpentry, and agricultural skills that made them useful; today’s inner-city black males don’t have any skills at all. They have truly become useless people.14
Actually the Democrats have made them that way. That’s because these inner-city blacks, though useless in the traditional sense, are useful to the Democratic Party—first, as voters, and second, as public exhibitions of the need for progressive redistribution programs. Under Democratic supervision, blacks in the inner city must remain poor, because their poverty is required to support and justify the progressive scheme. In this sense the ’hood is an invention of the Democratic Party."
