And the BIG winner in Alabama is...............................

Just a couple folks. Some on the left, some on the right. A few drop in on occasion.

Names, Jesse? You said at least a dozen. I can't think of any really regular posters who left after Trump was elected (unless they were banned, but that's their fault).

"there's at least a dozen or so of our really great regulars that left after Trump won"

Who? I don't remember that at all.

Some chick who (unfortunately) likes the Rangers, but I hear she's back now so....:2wave:

...You were on a pretty long break, Tres. Perhaps implying it was immediate was a mistake?

Perhaps. I was on a break that started over 4 months after Trump was inaugurated. Now that my break is over, I guess I haven't noticed any posters gone who were regulars. Except the ones who were banned, I mean.

Okay, how about just 2 names? I won't even ask for the dozen. Just two?

Nonobaddog and Glen Contrarian dipped. I've seen both of them around again, but Nono only once. There's a lot of missing people who didn't have avatars. There's only about two or three guys like that I acknowledge the existence of, so most of their names elude me.

Nono's been around a lot. I just responded to two of his posts this morning that he made last night. I've been posting with him a lot over the last week or so about his dog, who is having problems. Glen always came and went. Glen's also been around.

I don't want to derail this thread but your post struck me as very odd since I couldn't think of a person who left here after the election.

I swear there were months on end where neither one of them showed up for ages.

I thought you had assumed you were in that crowd (which you were) and were fishing for a compliment as a joke. That's why I beat around the bush so long.

Its my understanding that Jones won by a thin margin. I would caution those who see his win as a mandate, or a sign of real change.

It's Alabama, one of the reddest states out there. A Democrat losing a close race should give Republicans pause, never mind winning one.

Baked on hot awesome right there.

If there were no allegations against him, in all likelihood, he would have won by a large margin. I don't think we should lose sight of that.

Considering that Trump begged Alabama voters both in person and on twitter to vote for Moore...I'd say Trump was more than just a "minor issue".

You are missing a few issues:
First, there appears to be no way to remove a person from a Senate race based on what Moore did.
Second, having said that, him getting elected would have allowed him to be impeached out of the Senate and a Republican governor would have named a Republican replacement.

That is why Trump pushed for him. Plain and simple politics.

In a similar vein, Frankin's replacement will be a Democrat appointed by the Democrat governor. (Apparently it will their lieutenant governor)

I can't help but think that Alabama going blue had more to do with Roy Moore chasing children around with his penis than Donald Trump being President. This is a state that voted for him in a landslide, after all.

You're not wrong. Without the kid-touching stuff, Moore wins going away.

That said, I can't help but wonder if some of the conservative element in Alabama didn't feel a bit patronized by having Steve Bannon and Louie Gohmert tell them not to let out-of-state interests tell them how to vote. I'm hoping this is more a rejection of Bannonism, which is far more frightening than Trumpism. Steve Bannon is pure evil.

I can't comment on what impact "outsiders" had on voters' decisions yesterday, but I can point to

1)A White House that that has overt White Supremacist sympathies and multiple repugnant policies.
2)Extraordinarily high black turnout.
3)As everybody knows, a morally repugnant Republican candidate, thus energizing Democratic turnout and depressing Republican turnout, and
4)An upstanding Democratic candidate who, it should be said, not only did not chase underage children but also prosecuted KKK murderers.

Take away just one of these bricks (especially the second one), and Moore would have won last night.

I'm legitimately impressed by the maturity of that tweet. Are we sure Trump's the one who wrote it? ;)

"The write in votes played a very big factor..." Yeah, that's pretty Trumpian. "played a very big factor."

I'll be honest with you, the forum does seem to have lost quality lately. The current political climate seems to have driven everyone insane. There's more than a few posters on here that were significantly better than they are now, and there's at least a dozen or so of our really great regulars that left after Trump won. Sometimes I get a bit sad when I think about the change, but I still stand by my claim that we're the best damn politics forum on the English side of the internet.

"sad about the change"? Then you cannot be a real progressive. It's the lack of change that makes them melancholy.

Well, he's not wrong, now is he? All you illiterates who insist on calling a hebephile a pedophile might as well be wiping your unwashed peasent asses with the dictionary! Giving the internet to lowborn plebians was clearly a mistake.

Since a 14 year old is legally a child, Moore is a child molester. Pedophile will do.

Trump showed us that there was a very big gap between those who see sanity and those who want to push us towards insanity. It's not rocket science. Trump and his supporters are Deplorable. And, yeah, anyone not seeing it, well....**** em.

I'm not a military expert, but exposing the pilot like that seems like a terrible design flaw.

I would say the chance that Trump composed that tweet on his own is approximately zero.

I quite agree. If it hadn't been for Moore's perversity, he would have easily won.

That being said, it's already been rightly pointed out by conservatives that the short-term pain of losing that one seat in Alabama was worth the long-term gain (or at least the long-term lot-less-pain) of rejection of Bannonism/Trumpism. By losing, the GOP took a bullet...but dodged a much, much bigger bullet.

Bannonism/trumpism is like Rasputin, and it took a lot more than a single bullet to finally end him.
