Abortion illuminates the status of faith in the US. Religious fundamentalists, their political poodles, and a God-fearing Supreme Court want a national ban on the procedure. The majority of Americans support a woman’s right to choose. Hence we have a social civil war — in which the religious/political crusaders have rigged the electoral system to deny the majority of Americans their will.

The bad news for Bible-thumpers is that they are rowing against the tide. Free thinking has grown steadily as more Americans turn their backs on indoctrination. Organized fundamentalists have noticed. As their numbers decline, their noise has increased. Although, it may be their last hurrah — unless they establish an Iran-style theocracy.

Eeligion should be a blessing. So many people benefit from their faith. It gives them meaning, guidance, comfort, community, an explanation for the inexplicable, and hope for good things after they are dead. But that is not enough for the zealots.

These miserable people cannot leave well enough alone. They use their belief to butt into other people’s business. The Founders knew that state religion is anathema to individual freedoms. Today’s religious oppressors are proving them right.

Ironically, America is a country where many so-called Christians spit on Jesus’s legacy while many atheists attempt to follow his call to look after the poor, the downtrodden, the immigrant, the prisoner, and the sick. If America is a country of Christian values, it is no thanks to conservative Christians.

They hold more positions of pwer now than they ever have before. We really are in serious trouble here of this continues.

Atheists are following the call of Jesus by doing what? Which universe are you living in?

You must have had an angry hangover when you wrote this garbage.

Do you suppose that they have the slightest inkling that one reason church participation is falling is due to the actions of the churches?

Not really, it’s because of constant athiestic indoctrination in schools, media, and culture.

Because communists from Europe were allowed to move here in the 20th century

It’s in the Bible. Jesus said before the end comes the love of many shall wax cold.

Author seems awfully sure of his predictions, but history is rife with examples of a political minority seizing power and enforcing its will.
More often than not, in the wake of a deadly attack, a gigantic financial collapse or in the wake of a band of martyrs.

It's called logic and reasoning. Something which seems to be an anathema to church/religion.

Take it up with the government then.

Such as? Actions like upholding Biblical truth? Standing against abortion and gender confusion? Supporting parental authority in the home and schools? Expecting our leaders to enforce existing laws?

FYI the church isn’t failing and never will. It’s the world that’s failing and falling into a moral abyss. Relativism always brings doom to any society. Where there are no standards failure is eminent.

What "truth" would that be? What are the facts to support this so called truth?

Morality is subjective.

Morality is subjective.
Personal testimony supports and confirms Biblical truth.

Ignorance is subjective too. Congratulations.

Subjective, anecdotal, and notoriously unreliable.. That's nothing more than "because someone said so."
Ignorance is subjective too. Congratulations.
And there is nothing more ignorant than relying on subjective accounts with a confirmation bias.

There are morals in almost all religions and among atheists. Morals existed before Christianity, before the bible and that is the truth.

The Bible takes in all of history in general. There were, however, people on the earth before the Bible was written. That is the truth.

Whether you believe someone’s testimony is up to you, but it doesn’t take away the truth of someone’s else’s experience. Are you calling yourself a liar? When you talk to with someone do they believe what you’re saying? Is your word any good? Or does nothing but lies come out of your mouth? What a plastic world you must live in.

What they experience may not be reflective of reality, much less truth. People make claims all the time. Without objective evidence to back it up, there's no reason to take it seriously. Only those who are gullible or simple minded would accept testimony, no questions asked or with a bias.

I live in reality, unlike theists with their baseless claims of god/s. I wouldn't expect anyone to believe me without some backing evidence. But then, I wouldn't make outrageous claims either.

No, the bible is just a collection of stories written by ancient men.

Secular religion has taken over.
