America has lost its mind over political correctness

An asian american was pulled from a football game because his name is Robert Lee.
are you friggen serious?

this insanity has to stop and reasoned discourse and logic is needed in this case.

What exactly is the harm here? Who is being injured by ESPN trying to avoid controversy? You and Fox News are the only ones who seem to want to turn this into some kind of big deal. ESPN has a right to decide who calls which game do they not? Does someone get paid less because he's doing a different game?

Do you not realize how insane you sound that you're creating a controversy over someone else's attempt to avoid controversy?

The left has lost its mind. America? Not so much. Reasoned discourse and logic is currently unattainable, but that's not to say it would be sometime in the future.

What is illogical about it? Is there some reason why this guy should be doing the Virginia game? Would he be a better fit to announce a Virginia game for some reason? Does he know a lot about the Virgina team? Would he be worse at announcing the other game?

Where to send their announcers seems to be entirely arbitrary. They can send them to which ever games they choose. Perhaps they just wanted to avoid a bunch of twitter jokes about Robert Lee in Virginia distracting from the actual games. If Fox News and nut jobs on the Right wouldn't be turning this into a big deal, it wouldn't matter at all, and nobody would have even noticed.

So it is OK to live in fear of the radical left because they may attack innocent people over their name. The hate and the prejudice is even worse than I realized. WOW!

Lee, an Asian-American sportscaster who started with the network in 2016, was moved to a different game "simply because of the coincidence of his name," ESPN said, referencing the Confederate general Robert E. Lee.

That you would try to control business shows your fascistic tendencies.

Nobody is attacking anybody over a name. ESPN chose to do this because they didn't want to look stupid over something so simple. Twitter would have had a field day making fun of ESPN, and they chose to avoid it so the focus could be more on the game.

You're the ones who seem to be trying to attack someone over a choice to avoid controversy.

I'm a white male raised in a small christian conservative town in fly over country. I don't live in fear of the left at all. It's really not that hard to avoid being a dick if you try, and if you make an honest mistake nobody really gives a ****, they just want you to understand why you could have said something in a better way.

The people who get attacked by the left are just assholes who think it's cool to not give a **** about anybody but themselves.

Can I guess you have high agreeableness? So basically "disagreeable" people are bad because they don't feel they have to be polite or just when they are disagreeable and don't conform to a narrative(Christianity, progressive what have you)?

That's kind of the definition of a dickhead I think isn't it? Why is that such a difficult thing to do? If you want to be a dick around your friends, and you think that's funny go ahead, but when you or an organization are making official statements that represent the public position of your organization, just try not to be a dick.

That's really all political correctness is. It's tact. It's the ability to make a point without making an enemy. You can disagree with people with out disrespecting them or being presumptuous. Is it really that difficult for conservatives to avoid Ad Hominem attacks? Or is it that their entire political position is just one big Ad Hominem attack in the first place?

I mean if you were meeting your girlfriends parents for the first time, or talking to your priest, or in a job interview you can handle that discussion without dropping swear words and f-bombs can't you? I swear a blue streak when I'm hanging out with my friends. Anybody who's read my posts around here can see how frequently I end up with **** bleeping out words, but when I'm helping a buddy coach his kids basketball team I watch my mouth. Is that really that difficult for you?

no they created controversy but removing an asian guy because he had a common asian name Lee.
but this is what i expect from the stupidity of political correctness. knee jerk reactions.

Wrong. All they did was switch their announcers around. Nobody would have given a flying **** about it at all unless you and Fox News made a big deal about it. 99.999999999999% of the planet wouldn't have even noticed they did it.

It's just like this idiotic war on Christmas. Nobody would have given a flying **** about whatever greeting Walmart employees were using if some right wing nuts and Fox News didn't turn it into some massive thing. It's a private companies policy. They can choose to have their employees say whatever they want. You just think your holiday is SOOOOOOOO much more more important than the rest of the world that it needs to be put on a pedestal.

They're trying not to be presumptuous and assume all their customers are Christians. There's nothing wrong with that. Happy Holidays is a term that should be the most inclusive term possible. There is absolutely no justification for anybody to have that term bother them, and yet the Right is freaking out because their holiday isn't getting put on a pedestal. They're just being dicks because they think they're more important than everyone else. That is all.

I'm not sure if this is really political correctness. They didn't fire the guy or make him go home. They simply swapped him to another game. If they would have had Robert Lee announce the game right after all that mess people could accuse them of possible setting it up like that on purpose to poke fun or something. They were just thinking ahead. Now I agree that this should be unnecessary, and that anyone upset about the name of an announcer needs to check themselves, but this was simply a private company making a decision. I definitely don't think it's one of the more offensive examples of people making choices based on political correctness.

I can't believe someone is finding a way to defend this stupid move.

What is stupid about it? Who was hurt? What problem does this cause?

You want to bitch about people being offended.... listen to yourself. You're offended by something as simple as someone being agreeable. If someone chooses to be a dick head that's their choice, and most people really don't give a ****. But you're angry that people choose to make an effort to not be a dick head. That is the stupidest ****ing thing in the world to be angry about. You're angry at people who are trying to be nice.

i bet the guy cares. you are making blanket statements you can't support but this type of hyperbole is what i expect.
instead of condemn the stupidity of political correctness you support it.

actually no people for some reason got offended when someone said merry christmas. ol poor snowflakes.

they defend anything as long as it agree with their ideology no matter how stupid it is.

This is an example of an outlandish and stupid thing. And they should be ridiculed unmercifully for it. ****ing morons.

The crowd is not the sum of its parts.

I am a republican who did not vote for Trump (Or Hillary).

Why exactly did they fear for Robert Lee's safety? Was there any indicadtion beforehand that he was at risk.

I think this is a stupid overreaction on ESPN's part.

Can we expect that Nine Months, Jingle All the Way, Stepmom, Bicentennial Man, Monkeybone, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, etc. will be next on the list???

It's not a stupid move. They shouldn't have to do it, I'd fully support them if they decided not to, but I understand why they did it given the circumstances.

In this very thread I've condemned Antifa and anyone who would have a problem with this Robert Lee broadcasting the game. I'm not defending the whole "lets be upset over his name" thing. I'm defending ESPN for thinking ahead and making a decision that they thought might avoid a problem down the road. Your comment makes it seem as though I'm arguing something else. If you feel like you are capable of expressing what my "ideology" is then please go ahead.

i bet the guy cares.
Why? He's getting paid the same. He's still announcing a basketball game. If Conservatives would have just shut up about it nobody would have noticed or cared and this guy wouldn't have had to deal with getting made fun of on twitter all game long.

Yes, because wishing a complete stranger Merry Christmas arrogantly assumes that every random person on the street is a Christian. I guarantee you if a Jewish Walmart greeter started wishing every person that walked through the door a Happy Hanukkah Christians would have freaked the **** out about it. When you presume that you know intimate details about people you've never met based entirely on a glance that is incredibly arrogant.

Are you saying it's stupid for people to be upset about his name or it's stupid for ESPN to think that it might easier to send Robert Lee to a city where they didn't just have massive violent protests over an old dead guy named Robert Lee?

It's not a stupid move. They shouldn't have to do it, I'd fully support them if they decided not to, but I understand why they did it given the circumstances.

They didn't HAVE to do it. Nobody forced them to. They're just trying to avoid any type of controversy that might distract from the game. It shows that they were at least cognizant of what just happened there, and don't want any more focus on it that there already was.

This is an example of an outlandish and stupid thing. And they should be ridiculed unmercifully for it. ****ing morons.

Why? You guys keep saying that, but you can't give a single solitary reason why it was stupid? What harm was done? Who was injured? Did someone get paid less? was someone inconvenienced by it? Is there some reason this guy needed to announce this game instead of another one?

Big corporations, especially those that have a face to the public, are always ultra-conservative/cautious.

They have to be.

To suggest they should stop, is what's absurd. So you personally have nothing to lose by being non-PC. That's great.
Giant corporations? They lose nothing by being PC, they can suffer extreme losses by being careless. Most will choose the lowest common "be PC" denominator, and their boards hired them to do just that. Manage risk.
