Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Refuses Invitation to Visit Auschwitz Concentration Camp

What's comical about the whole thing is everyone is referring to "concentration camps" as the Nazi variety being the standard definition, which it isn't.

AOC referred to them as such.

Actually, it is the standard definition. When one talks about concentration camps, this is what people think of. There's a reason why that is. And don't give me any crapola definition from Webster. You talk concentration camps, people know what you are referring to. AOC and others and purely disgusting to make the comparison. Victims of the Holocaust would be turning over in their graves. Funny how the left jumps all over Biden for bringing up people from the other side who he has worked with over the years and call him racist and insensitive but, comparing immigration detention to facilities to concentration camps? No, that's not insensitive at all.

You're confusing the definition with the connotation, so it's not "crapola". I do think she was using it to get a reaction, and don't agree that these detention camps are any way similar to Nazi concentration camps.

Weird how a member of the governmental body that can actually change and improve the law that led to the mess on the border, appears to be unwilling to influence that change. Unless she thinks she can score more political points with her crass comparison, and that’s more important to her than actual change.

I concur, and I actually like her.

Thank you for your opinion.

That individual disrespected the Jewish people, the mentally challenged, the political dissidents, the gays, the Jehovah Witnesses, et al. who were tortured or murdered in those
actual concentration camps, which should NEVER, EVER be compared to any other kind of facility.

That individual should beg for forgiveness, but she is so full of herself (thanks to the shameless media) that she is allowed to say any nonsense that she wants and her "fans" swoon. I hear that some pro-Trump strategists hope that she keeps bloviating until election day.

Yeah; she jettisoned a buttload of credibility with this one... :(

She displayed her total ignorance about the Holocaust.

Some folks who know the history offered to help educate her.

She, being the dimwit she is... declined.

Her ignorance of the Holocaust or her ignorance of the hard right Jewish version of the Holocaust?

Firstly, she compared these camps to "concentration camps".

I'm sorry, but the British "invented" concentration camps in Africa. A concentration camp is not a uniquely Nazi thing. They used them. However mostly the Nazis are vilified for extermination camps. I've been to Dachau, it was a concentration camp and not an extermination camp, though a lot of people died there, they did not die from being gassed, if I remember rightly.

Secondly, that people will take "concentration camps" and then go "well the Nazis had these, and the Nazis killed Jews, therefore this is anti-Semitism" is typical nonsense.

Thirdly apparently "some folks know the history", yeah, sure, and some folks also like to change history, which is what is happening here.

This is about O-Cortez. The dimwitted Westchester girl.

You don’t have to go to Auschwitz, Dachau, Bergen-Belsen, or Mauthausen to understand the horrors. But you do have to have some education on the subject. O-Cortez displayed her massive and majestic ignorance.

Perhaps she should pick up the books Man’s Search for Meaning and Ordinary Men.

O-Cortez... such a big mouth vomiting so much idiocy.

Right, and your education on the subject is what?

That "concentration camp" means "Auschwitz and other Nazi camps and not other concentration camps, like the British ones in Africa"?

Please.

LOL. AOC is nothing but political 24/7.

Yes, of course she is. So why would she fall for such a cheap and ridiculous trick as this?

The good old "concentration camp" = "Nazi concentration camp" = "only Jews died in Nazi concentration camps" kind of fallacy.

Really? So if some other nation starts throwing undesirables into camps, nobody should make any comparisons? I can see how much the right wing loves NAZIs. Not only are they philosophical allies, they are the never achievable metric of evil that modern conservatives can use to minimize their own crimes. The NAZIS are the fat girl at the wedding, making the GOP feel great about themselves.

I can understand why you hate Miss Corte so much. She noticed how ugly you guys are and it hurts your widdle feewings. Sniff, sniff...

You mean how the left is always scrambling to try and spin any words of Trump to make him look bad? I think when your ancestors are brutally taken from their homes and killed the way Jews were that you can deflect insinuations that aren't true and correct them.
Sure. But where you do so with the sole intention of preserving a level of inordinate interest in a series of events far from unique, it speaks to intimations of agenda.

This is a typical problem for the Left. They just cannot face reality, as it kills their idiotic world view.

Instead they prefer to remain ignorant... and... my oh my this O-Cortez a model of ignorance and stupidity. And she seemingly loves to show it off!!!
Problems with the fake outrage over AOC not visiting Auschwitz...

Steve King, who is a supporter of white nationalism and has been known to utter racist comments from time to time, be rated AOC for not going. The last time he went to Auschwitz, he visited with former SS guards.

After the tragedy of Charlottesville, VA...Trump called those who were chanting “We will not be replaced” as they walked around in various white nationalist and Nazi attire...”fine people”.

AOC comments about the detained immigrants being held in concentration camps is apt. Andrea Pitzer, an expert on the subject, agrees. In fact, history shows us that before the death camps, the Nazis adopted the British idea of concentration camps (they were used to detain innocent Boer civilians) before adopting the Final Solution.

Personal observation: when your ideology/political party that you belong to has elements of hate and racism...you need to tend to your own first before calling out others. And even then, do yourself a favor and research the issue before making yourself look like jack@ss.

And what is a "concentration camp"?

Where was the first "concentration camp"?

Which countries have had "concentration camps"?

List of concentration and internment camps - Wikipedia

A nice list for you. Note, it's not only Nazi Germany.

A nice list, but irrelevant.

With all he attacks coming from the Left against Trump, is there any question she was referencing Nazi concentration camps?

When that term... concentration camp... comes up, it is always referencing what the Nazi’s did.

I’m certain O-Cortez was not referencing FDR’s concentration camps for Americans of Japanese descent. She’s probably ignorant of the internment of those Americans.

Yes, everything is irrelevant because you want to pound on her the same as Democrats pound on Trump. Right?

Is there any question she was referring to Nazi concentration camps? Yes, actually, there is. She said "CONCENTRATION CAMPS". There have been lots of those. Just because you want to make weekassed links to the Nazis doesn't mean anything.

No, when that term "concentration camp" comes up, it's not always referencing what the Nazis did. Only in a world where people are as ignorant as farts and they think concentration camps only happened in Nazi Germany, does it always mean that.

Look dude, seriously. Just because you want to pound on her, doesn't make you right for doing something so ridiculous.

You should read what Trump said about Charlottesville. He didn’t say what you claim. The media once again has ****ed with the space between your ears.

Just as they did with the 2016 election.

Hillary’s ocean of criminalities.

Mullah being able to indict Trump.

Trump’s NDA being illegal.

Russian collusion.

Obstruction.

And what they failed to inform you about Obama and his FBI, CIA, DoJ and DNI corruptions in spying on the Trump campaign.

That’s a short yet important list... and Charlottesville is another in a massively long line of Goebbels Media misinformation. And you, like millions of other suckers... believe it.

As for O-Cortez, her comments about concentration camps are stupid, silly and offensive. But you keep on defending her... the woman who is among the dumbest representatives in Congress.

She was offered to be educated on something she obviously knows nothing about. To fill in part of the massive void between her ears. By people who are experts. Of course... she declined.

ROTFLOL... yes there have been other concentration camps, FDR’s for example, but I have yet to come across anyone who references “Concentration Camps” and doesn’t mean the Nazi variety found in Germany, Austria or Poland. Them Nazi’s left an indelible mark when it comes to that term.

Nice try though. But may I suggest you stop trying sooooo hard? ROTFLOL... for you’re looking as silly as O-Cortez.

PS. The ridiculousness is all yours... and O-Cortez’s.

Ah yes, she knows nothing about it.

You know she knows nothing about it because she said "concentration camp" and you think concentration camps only existed in Nazi Germany. Is that the line here?

It's pretty funny. The British stated concentration camps in Africa. Why did you not think of this first? Why does it always have to be about Nazi Germany?

Okay, you're calling her ignorant, and then stating that you've never met anyone who's referenced concentration camps and meant anything but Nazi camps. Which appears to be more YOUR IGNORANCE than hers.

concentration camp | Facts, History, & Definition | Britannica.com

"Concentration camp, internment centre for political prisoners and members of national or minority groups who are confined for reasons of state security, exploitation, or punishment, usually by executive decree or military order. Persons are placed in such camps often on the basis of identification with a particular ethnic or political group rather than as individuals and without benefit either of indictment or fair trial. Concentration camps are to be distinguished from prisons interning persons lawfully convicted of civil crimes and from prisoner-of-war camps in which captured military personnel are held under the laws of war. They are also to be distinguished from refugee camps or detention and relocation centres for the temporary accommodation of large numbers of displaced persons.

During war, civilians have been concentrated in camps to prevent them from engaging in guerrilla warfare or providing aid to enemy forces or simply as a means of terrorizing the populace into submission. During the South African War (1899–1902) the British confined noncombatants of the republics of Transvaal and Cape Colony in concentration camps. Another instance of interning noncombatant civilians occurred shortly after the outbreak of hostilities between Japan and the United States (December 7, 1941), when more than 100,000 Japanese and Japanese-Americans on the West Coast were taken into custody and placed in camps in the interior."

First two paragraphs about concentration camps and they didn't even mention Nazi Germany.

Sorry, your ignorance doesn't allow you to pretend she said something she did not say.

And especial thanks for my first chuckle of the day. (It's almost 1 a.m. here in Los Angeles.)

Have a great day.

Yeah; she jettisoned a buttload of credibility with this one... :(

Yes, every time she opens her mouth, she loses credibility.

The poor dear. She probably still pinches herself every morning and thinks: "I can't believe it that so many people hang on my every word. Wow! It's so much fun being a first-term Congressperson. Maybe in 2020, I will try for the Speakership."

What's comical about the whole thing is everyone is referring to "concentration camps" as the Nazi variety being the standard definition, which it isn't.

Now that is a very intriguing comment.

I am 82 years old, and -- like a lot of other people -- I automatically think of Nazi Germany whenever I hear the term "concentration camps."

Because the cruelty and barbarity of those Nazi facilities were beyond belief in the tortured history of the world, many people like me feel that it SHOULD be the "standard definition."

Have a nice day!
