Alabama students throwing 'COVID parties'

Rip the band aid off. We are all getting it anyway. might as well schedule your illness for when it is convenient.

Yeah. Thanks trump.

Did you know that it is actually possible to beat a virus? And even easier to contain it?

No, you don't. You're a trump supporter.

Nobody has beat it yet and containment, well that's amusing. Reality is unfamiliar to you as it is most democrats who can only attack Trump and his supporters since their candidate sucks donkey balls.

Alabama students throwing 'COVID parties' to see who gets infected

Students in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 have been attending parties in the city and surrounding area as part of a disturbing contest to see who can catch the virus first, a city council member told ABC News on Wednesday.

Tuscaloosa City Councilor Sonya McKinstry said students have been organizing "COVID parties" as a game to intentionally infect each other with the contagion that has killed more than 127,000 people in the United States. She said she recently learned of the behavior and informed the city council of the parties occurring in the city.

She said the organizers of the parties are purposely inviting guests who have COVID-19. "They put money in a pot and they try to get COVID. Whoever gets COVID first gets the pot. It makes no sense," McKinstry said. "They're intentionally doing it."

The younger generation at it again. The future looks bleak.

Hey, there, holbritter...feels like a really long time since we've talked. :)

So, first, 100%, I acknowledge, this is bull****. I mean, absolute stupidity, of a suicidal nature. What a bunch of assholes.

But I'll tell you a story, happened to me last week. We got a new (to us) car, so I had to go down to our government office to buy plates. I got to the parking lot and put on my mask. I live in a little town, so the licensing office is little - the line went out the door, as the normally crowded waiting room wouldn't allow for social distancing. There were around two dozen people in line. Of those two dozen, three of us were under the age of 60, if one can judge by the hair of the folks ahead of them. Coincidentally there were three people in that line who had masks on. Now, I expect, based on the fact that I've already told you I was wearing a mask, and the fact that I'm telling this story at all, you know who those three people are. Spoiler alert, none of us had white hair.

Now, as I stood in that line, I admit, it wasn't just for them that I put the mask on. While I'm low(er) risk, my seven year old son is extremely high risk, he dies if he gets this. But they do factor in bigly - certainly they would have in the minds of the other two, one I'd place in their 20's, the other late 30's / early 40's. Here we were, baking in our masks as we waited to go inside, and not a single one of the over 60 crowd was wearing one. So, on my way home, I looked around. While some seniors were wearing masks, the vast majority were not.

Moral of the story, there are angels and assholes in every demographic under the sun, and already too much division in the world as it is. I would caution against creating more, especially from glass houses... ;)

Point taken, and thank you. I've missed your level and fair POVs. :)

As their percentage of their new cases rises the incidence of serious complications rises as well.

They were never "safe" in the first place. Just at less risk of dying. Now a bunch of them will live their lives with permanent damage.

And we're not seeing spikes attributed to the protests yet.

It is beleived that the many mask wearers and being outside the whole time is responsible.

It's bars and churches and potentially political rallies and strip clubs, etc. Crowds of maskholes indoors.

Then why are the beaches closed and amusement parks open?

The fact that thus far they aren't seeing any spikes from the protests is actually a ****ing good thing for the country and the economy.

That's the problem with your president.

It's all about his reelection. The protests look so good to his propagandists that they are forced to ignore the evidence that being outside and wearing masks really does reduce the incidence of infection. Because that would mean, in part, that masks work, instead of just being something people are doing to signal they don't like trump.

This is why I've taken to calling it the "moronavirus". Because trumps self absorbtion and the republicans' hunger for donations and cushy after-politics jobs is leading to some really stupid outcomes.

It's really ignorant to assume Republicans are the only ones who do that.

Bryant–Denny Stadium has a capacity of just over 100,000.........just saying.

I predict that college football will be played in empty stadiums this year...if it is played at all.

No he doesn’t. The average seven year old is more likely to be struck by lightning than to die of the coronavirus, and there is no subset of seven year olds with a non-trivial Covid mortality risk.

Dude --- you know nothing about his son or why he's extremely high-risk. Have some class.

Wait....which party has made wearing a mask a political thing?

His son may have other health issues that would put him at higher risk

I know statistics. There is no population of small children (including those who are immunocompromised) at non-trivial risk of dying of the coronavirus.

Of course, OlNate's son may be at high risk of dying from other causes. But the chances of Covid seriously complicating those other causes is small.

These were likely M.A.G.A. supporters... who ignore all educational information.

I read that today as well. UN FREAKIN BELIEVABLE!

Whataboutism had to rear it's head in this just as in any other thread around here.

Howboutthosemets?

Still paying Bonilla. Not much other news although The Franchise has Alzheimer's. 2020, not such a good year.

One state now has party attenders refusing to speak with contact tracers. Subpoenas and potential $2000 per day fines to follow.

Yes, you keep believing that while your rate of serious infection among the young increases disturbingly. Then they bring the disease home...

Be sure to hide in your home and never come out. After all, you could get a virus!
