So I saw this video on youtube. I am really impressed with the kid. Good video, made me happy. I hope he gets a good opportunity to go to school in the US. Talent like his would be wasted in Sierra Leone. educational immigration is the good kind of immigration.
But this video doesn't focus on that. It focuses on a mixed message.... it is a good one but a better one would be to have the kid go and study in the US.
Why? Because although the kid broke the ice of engineering by being able to make a radio and a generator, those are fairly easy things to make. It is not his ability to make a radio that is amazing it is the fact that he has the passion for engineering, proving once again the truth that need is the mother of all inventions and creativity. To give an example, my uncle, when he was a teen, during the communist era also made a radio because they didn't have it where he was and he wanted to listen to the music stations and hear the game. And so did many other people during those days.
This kid has the power to learn and become a good engineer. He will never be able to do this in sierra leone. He should be given the chance to do it in the US. I think the organization the guy talks about at the end should focus more on this.
